I've messaged this older woman with a joke (relating to something on her profile about her garden being invaded by animals) on OKCupid, not really sure how to respond to her.

Me:
Hey, I have a problem with nature as well, I found a snail in my garden today. I tried to make it go faster by taking its shell off but it just made it more sluggish.

Her:
I really shouldn't have laughed at that.

I'm ashamed of myself :(

What's the problem? She responded, essentially, that while the joke was corny, she thought it was funny. I think she just has a really dry sense of humor.

How about, "I really shouldn't have told the joke. Hi, nice to meet you =)"

Be a little self-deprecating and say Hi, she might find it cute.

No problem, just not sure how to go ahead with it.

Thanks both - I went with Fury's idea, her and some (even older) woman responded perfectly, I'll set up a meeting for the next couple of days.
