Wow. I have NOT been here in ages.

But man, this one stumps me so I thought I'd come back and ask for some advice.

So basically, how do I hook up with a cute girl from a videogame forum I frequent? Recently we all posted pictures of ourselves in a thread, and I got her to post a pic of herself, and man is she cute. Deal is, she's one of the few girls in the forum, and being attractive, certainly sets herself appart drawing attention.

Now while CLEARLY the other dudes in the forum aren't any competition, here's where I wanna ask for advice. How do I approach this?

It's just such a strange situation. I'm wary of immediately coming onto her as she's JUST posted a picture of herself, but at the same time, it's not like I've been ignoring her prior to.

I dunno, the whole situation just seems so foreign to me, but I wanna give it a shot.

So... help?

I should also mention I'm not some hopeless virgin, so it's not like don't know how to talk to girls. And I've already read all the stuff way back when, so I don't need people to start telling me about time limits and NLP and whatever... I already know it, and yeah, I'm wary of my physique and confidence, it's not like don't believe I can't do it, I just want some opinions.

The reason this does not work for the average chump, is because they don't have the class or the balls to follow through.

I just had some girl hit me up on my one profile: "While I get what you're saying...you're an asshole who would never deserve to be in my presence."

Me: "Why, are you fat? lol. But isn't asshole a little harsh? I was just being honest."

Her: "I knew you would respond in a non asshole like way! Lol" Accompanied by a picture nude with important parts covered by arms an hands. "You decide if I'm fat."

Followed by: "Honesty is best... but you're too demanding and in the box..
.too concise. Harsh? No. I'm sure I'm not the only one to think the same but I didn't pass you by w/o having to say something!! :-p"

She is not fat.

Absolutely, I've seen exactly what other people have tried to do, and it's the whole, "h-hey, we like the same characters/videogames/whatever..." To initiate some small talk. It's downright pathetic.

Now I have talked to her in threads and stuff about whatever bullshit topic was at hand. I've also talked with her a bit through PM. I actually put her in charge of something. There was this thing I was doing where someone PMed and suggested I draw artistic interpretations of some members because they liked my art style, so I started giving it a shot since it was good practice, and just churning out random pictures of people. When we made it public, she and a large number of other people liked my work, and she made this little roster thing for it. I basically "officially" put her in charge of it, as an excuse to have some PM banter here and there.

We PMed a bit, but not much, talked to her a bit, learned she has low self esteem about having a more slender frame (my interpretation of her (as well as the other girls who go there) was more crurvy). Told her she should lift weights and do squats to get a cute butt as everyone likes cute butts (I had no idea what she looked like when I wrote this mind you, I just went with what came to my mind). But it was more tongue-in-cheek.

So perhaps criticising her on her looks is not the best approach.

I get what you're saying but criticising a girl who admitted to having issues in the past with body dysmorphia is only gonna make her feel like shit.

There's a fine line between playfully teasing someone and outright being a dick. One has to use their own judgement of character to see how much critique a person can take. Not everyone is as open-minded as one hopes.

I get the feeling that if start being a dick to this girl out of the blue, it'll likely make her feel bad and get her pissed off. There's no need for me to break character and pretend to be someone I'm not. Sure, I get what you say about not being a pushover, but you have to learn to keep things in flow, not pretend to be something else to follow some system. Social Dynamics is about playing things by instinct, and staying aware of subtext, not about trying to manipulate people.

Look, as I said, I don't need a lesson on how to approach and talk to a girl in a general situation. That's not something that gives me trouble in the least. All I wanted was some thoughts on how to approach such an environment where people only come together to discuss a hobby and not NECESARILLY meet people.

Ahh well, I no longer need any advice on this. Already got things in motion.

But it seems our God is a cruel God. She lives 8000km from where I live. Nearly HALFWAY around the world.

Why is it that all the girls that I'm most intersted in always have to be the most unavailable, whether it be because they are taken, or because they're just too damn far away...?
