I've recently been having a lot of success with an opener on OKCupid. I'm not sure if it's the quality of the opener, or the proximity to Valentines day that's causing the high response rate.

Anyway, I'm looking for tips on ways to improve it.

Here's my opener template- (I never use fixed openers with online dating. It's too impersonal and never works for me)
Code:
Hey there! For once, quiver actually worked and came up with someone who sounds cool and not from Alaska! I'm , tall, skinny and a bit of a geek, but you can probably tell that from my profile. I'm more interested in finding out more about you!
I then go on to relate something about them with something about me. For example
Code:
You really sound like you want to be an author! I've 'technically' had a poem published, so from one kinda author to another, I've got a few questions to ask-
I then ask three questions about them.
Code:
Who would you say is your favoutite author ? You say you role play online- do you use World of Warcraft, or is there some sort of website for online role playing? And finally... If 42 is the answer to life, the universe and everything, what is the question? (not technically about you, but I thought I'd test your Hitchhikers knowledge :p)

Here's what I would do:

“Hey there. For once, clever actually worked and came up with someone who sounds cool and not from Alaska. ;)

I like this, it's pretty funny. I would go easy on the exclamation points, possibly replacing them with emoticons to show that you are joking.

I'm tall, skinny, and a bit of a geek, so I hope you love to laugh, and enjoy stimulating conversations.

Notice how I'm being vague here, while also describing to her what the experience she's going to have with you is going to be like.

I like that you are linking it back to her profile. Most guys don't read profiles–or if they do, they don't mention it in their messages. The fact that you're taking time to read your profile is a good thing.

From there I would go straight into asking her for coffee or drink. Say something like “anyway, if nothing else, I think you'd make a good friend. So if you're down for it, we should grab a drink or coffee soon.”

Nice opener!

I would change "I've 'technically' had a poem published" to "I'm 'technically' a published author", and add "I like your style" to your message.

Other than that, your opener is golden.

This material has some real potential!

Currently trying out this online sarging for shits and giggles. I have bin using some of the same but modifying to my kind of style and mannerisms and it is actually looking pretty good.
Ie. "Hi, Oh my (insert) works and came back with someone interesting and who actually isn't a computer program!" Aiming towards the credit card sucking trolls!

Some things i keep in mind when scouting hotties is, don't aim for one girl in particular test the field, keep things down to earth and read their profile.

Will let you know how it goes.
