Opening HB's on FB I met over the years (ex-classmates, etc)

So I want to start opening HB's on Facebook that have been on my friendslist for some time. These girls are ex-classmates, friends of friends and so on. Met them somewhere at some point in life and did not close them for whatever reason was the case at that time.

So after cleaning up my friendslist a found a couple of them (HB8, 9 and 10's) that I now want to close! Not sure how to open them again. I think 'Hey, how's life? Haven't talked to you for so long...' is not really interesting, a bit AFC' ish even.

So any tips, idea's, etc?
