Hi

I tried out the poking a number of HBs (I poked around ten) and seeing what happens. So far (two days later), two have poked back.

The first one I tried the it's not safe to poke strangers on:
ME: hey you know that it's not safe to poke strangers. i guess your parents never told you that
HB8: how did you find me?
ME: i can see you're more the adventurous type... you came up on the side here and looked very pokeable

no reply for two days

Second one (HB7) has just poked back. So I added her and wanted to try "hey ... are you friendly?", but she's sent a message first, saying:
Do I know you???x

The first seemed interested but then probably realised that we didn't know each other and backed out. Second one seems interested again, but I have to get around the fact that we don't know each other in a preferably uncanned manner.

Do you guys have any ideas for that? The girls around here don't seem to like being hit on in a too obvious way

Just say, "I'm sorry, but isn't this a social networking site? I thought we could meet and get to know new people here."

i think coming across in such a tone will give you an easy non-reply on facebook.

i still tried to be open about it saying:
-I don't think I know you. What are you like? Are you friendly?

then on another one that poked back:
-Hey you came up in my People I may know list and looked like a friendly person. Are you friendly?

even though former one has accepted the friend request I sent none of the two have replied yet (one day later)

maybe wrong timing? rather message them when they are online?

any ideas of different things I can try out?

I'm going to try "poking strangers is not safe" or something else playful again - or just "Hey!"?

my profile looks pretty cool so that shouldn't really be the issue

You - And you`re asking?! [insert some story] Don`t you remember?

[insert some story] - I mean something like "We`ve been married for three years, you took the house on Hawaii and I still live on this damn yacht..." - this is the story from the "Perfect internet game" topic, but you can insert whatever you want.

I have tried it and the result was awesome...

Never use the poke button on facebook unless you know them and don't be obsessive with it either, the poke button is annoying and chances are they see about 100 pokes per day why should you be any different from the last 99 guys who’ve poked her? Adding “are you friendly??” makes you look desperate and insecure I’d stop using that line and the poke from now and try this, if you like the look of whoever just send her a friend’s req and drop her a small message, check to see if you have any friends in common, if not check her interests and maybe "like" one of them and tell her you found her through that interest, that gives you a conversation starting point. If she's friendly she'll chat back if not you won't get accepted nor message back.
