I used to not have the problem, I suppose it might be a symptom of my depression. I just feel like there has to be a way to work on this. Once I get a conversation going I can tend to keep it up well for a little while. I tend to make people laugh so hard they cry when I talk to them and then right after that I try to talk to someone else because I'm pretty much only good at situational humor and once the funny situation has been pointed out I got shit to go with from there.
Can anyone give me some tips?

You can learn openers, opinion pieces, etc,. But depending upon the context ask them stuff about them self. And then if its a chick, use your natural humor to "spin" what they say, so you both get a chuckle.
Also, what are you doing to work on your depression? Anxiety like depression have to be DAILY "exercised". Feel free to PM me for some free websites, information I know.
No matter what ... don't be too hard on yourself, make the world less about _you_ and more about others and how you can experience and learn from everything.
All the best!
