Well today I visited the local Barnes n Nobles because I needed to get a study guide for the SATs...anyways, before I ventured into the SAT section, I was looking through books in the sports section when I caught the eye of a HB7 who was definately my type. She wasnt really eye fucking the shit out of me, but she was glancing over at me, definately checking me out.

I should of used the 3 second rule and gone over, but Ive never cold approached a girl during the day so like always I got nervous. Anyways I was in the sports section for a few minutes, just looking through several books when I notice her starting to come closer, and eventually she was "looking" for books in the sports question. Although it was pretty obvious that she wasnt looking for a sports book, so I took that as a huge proximity IOI.

But then I couldnt muster up the courage to say a damn thing. I was trying to think of suitable openers in my head, but I was drawing blanks. I guess I was a little surprised that I got a proximity IOI during the day, because its the first one that was very obvious to me since I began to learn the game. Anyways, ive been mulling over this failure to open all day, and I wasnt even going to post since I know what I shouldve done. But I decided, that anything to re-state the simple teachings, will help me get them embedded in my mind.

You don't need a opener. Just say whatever pops into your head.

I work at a big chain book store like that, which is it's own double sided store. On the positive side i have free range to approach who ever i want, its pretty much required. The major downside is that it's hard to be seen as anything but a bookseller, and it's hard to close without looking like a creep.

Book stores are definitely a nice place to find the ladies though, especially if you are looking for more down to earth girls rather than crazy club girls. Girl in the sports section however, is usually buying her b/f a birthday present. But it is a good sign to know that since she thinks he might actually like a sports book for his b-day, they are probably not that close.

Ya, bookstore girls are definately more of my type than crazy club girls...sure I want a fun girl, but i want someone who I can converse with intellectually about all sorts of things which seems to be the bookstore type.

And about the sports section, she pretty much didnt even give herself time to even consider a book, cuz she was walking past everything, but pretending to look at the same time...then she stopped on my right...pretended to look closely, then kept going...fuck I shoulda said atleast made eye contact and said "hi" haha

This is what I dont understand. If you get an IOI, then you know your golden. You can say anything as long as it isnt stupid and go from there...and even if you do say something stupid...who cares?

Just say what you think. You knew she was there for you, not for the books. Confront her with it (and a nice Colgate Smile )

It's the confidence and nerve that may be your issue. It's tough, but when you try to say what you think, it gets a lot easier. No need to remember openers or routines. Say "hi". When she responds (and trust me, she will), just let it be natural. When cruising at bars and pubs, you need to be witty and interesting. At days it is slightly different. You still need to prove that you're interesting, but it's usually less competition around - and you can always use the "we just bumped into each other" reason for talking. here, you ended up in the same book section. That's more than a reason to say "hi". No need to do the whole approach.
