I have studied anxiety disorders (PTSD, OCD, Social Phobia, and others) and one of the main things emphasized in SPAM is how the disorder is maintained by operant conditioning. For instance, when someone with social phobia is in a social situation, the result is discomfort/distress. In order to get rid of this feeling, they leave the situation. This reinforces this method of relieving the anxiety and the social anxiety can never be extinguished. In anxiety disorder SPAM, the patients are encouraged to stay with the feeling and stimulus evoking the feeling. I feel like this applies to me when I approach. I start to feel anxious and immediately eject. This has become my immediate reaction to approach anxiety. Immediately my head goes "Get the fuck out of here." My goal is to approach and stay in set, no matter how uncomfortable I feel. I will force myself to feel uncomfortable until approaching no longer makes me uncomfortable. When this happens, I'm amping it up to another level, finding something new that causes AA (extremely hot girls, very large sets, mixed sets, etc.).
here's a brief description of this effect -
