I recently read Alan Carr's "Easy Way to Quit Smoking", and it was a very effective book, I'll probably write a post about it in Health/Lifestyle. I've found one of the tactics in the book to be very effective for alleivating approach anxiety.

In the book, he talks about cravings, and how to handle these. The method is to laugh at and belittle the craving when you have one. It's a constant battle the first couple of days, but you start having less and less cravings as time goes on. Basically, when you have a craving, you are supposed to laugh at it then mentally belittle it by saying "That's silly, I'm not a smoker". Very powerful and effective method.

I've adapted this to approaching women as well. When I see a woman I want to approach and AA kicks in, I simply laugh to myself and tell myself "That's silly, I WANT to meet that woman and have a fun conversation with her". It works wonders and is a great little trick.

ive also heard about this as my mom was a smoker and did a similar technique and i kinda self tought it with out knowing i was doing it but not only for AA for a lot of aspects of my life like job interviews and such when i got nervous.....works like a charm but for some reason i always have a silly smile on my face for the first set of the night lol
