I have a problem with calling girls on the phone, I normally just text. I seem to get really nervous when I hear the phone ringing, this is odd because in person im not really shy or nervous. But on the phone forget it I cant seem to call any girl (even my friends) without being somewhat nervous.

ha ha ha how Ironic. cos I have exactly the opposite problem. when it comes to talking to girls on the phone online or emails I am very playfel, and all but in reality when we face each other I am a shy guy. I don't know what you got to be shy or fearful bout your toking on the phone. they aren't there!

This isn't a new technique by any means, but I've adapted it slightly, to deal with varying degrees of anxiety. (Previously, I was included. And working in a job where I had to call customers and plan to meet them was a scary job)

Firs things first, hide the caller ID on your phone and play a bit of ini-mini-mini-mo in the phone book, and choose a random number. Thats right folks, a completer random number.

Now, have your phone ready and shut your eyes. Try and imagine the most embarassing phone call...try and trace back what could have started this fear.

A crash and burn call with a previous crush? Or perhaps a girl you were gaming? If there was no incident, just imagine how BAD it could be. FEEL how that fear inside you. Push it up to a 10 on the fear scale.

Now, quickly before that annoying "rational" part of your brain kicks in and prevents you; open your eyes and make the damn call. Call the number - go go go!

When they pick-up say,

"Hi there! It's Bill (name doesnt matter. When you get it to it, begin to pick bizarre names) speaking, you alright?"

The majority will be caught off guard (they'll now be frantically trying to remember who you are) and reply "I'm fine".

Before they ask how they know you, cut in quickly:

"Good! Don't worry though, you don't know me...I'm just bored and wondered if you could recommend a good movie!" (emphasise a friendly voice).

The challenge to this game now is to see how long you can maintain a friendly conversation on ONLY the movie choice subject and WITHOUT them becoming annoyed.

As soon as they sound like they want to hang up or are becoming annoyed, say your goodbyes.

Then analyse the call. Is that fear still there? Rate the fear number your feeling (it probably slowly lowered the longer you forced that call to last)

Phone Anxiety will disappear when you play this game a few times. Fact.
The aim of the game is to keep them on the phone in a friendly manner, talking on that one opinion subject...because the longer they stay, the more that anxiety drops.

Hope that helps.

- Riot

yeah i have the same probelm. Way I deal with it is I decide that I have to call the chick, but usually know exactly what im going to say and try to make it as quick as possible. Then I just text from there. Works well.

ha! i have the same problem! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one out there. I'm slowly getting over it by just getting used to calling people in general, and it's getting a lot better. The more I call, the more I get comfortable with the idea of calling people.
