Colin Dubb launched Day Game Dating in 2006 with the intention of teaching men how to meet and attract women.
“Some guys will come just out of a relationship, they know what they’re supposed to do but they’ve lost their confidence, others will come because they’ve never dated or haven’t dated for a very long time,” Mr Dubb said.
“Some have no idea, they’ll start talking about ex-girlfriends or they’ll ask the girls ‘do you like me?’ straight away.”
Mr Dubb said another common pitfall was making elaborate romantic plans far too soon.
“A lot of them watch too many romantic movies and that stuff doesn’t work in real life,” he said.
“You don’t need anything external to make you attractive, you’ve just got to show your real personality.”
Mr Dubb acknowledged there was no foolproof way to pick up women but said his aim was to “make it a numbers game and get your hit-rate up”.
“Some people come hoping to learn a bunch of manipulative tricks but that’s not the right idea and most of my clients have tried that and got nowhere,” he said. “We charge money because it’s a business but we do care about the clients and want to help them change their lives.”
Courses are available for groups or individual and always involve real-life guided pick-up attempts.
“After some theory, we’ll go out and I’ll do it first, we’ll do it together, and then I’ll get them to do it,” he said.
“I’ll coach the guys in front of the girls, I don’t get embarrassed and I don’t think we’re doing a bad thing. A lot of them think it’s great because they’ve been approached badly so many times.”
