I was revising for my Biology finals reading The Selfish Gene when I came across a guy called Robert Trivers. He's an evolutionary biologist and a pretty fascinating person. Anywho I read that he's studied extensively into a psychological principal called Self-Deception. It's fairly self explanatory from its name.

It's about the fact we're never completely in touch with reality. Our own opinions, desires and beliefs take us further and further away from reality.
(Personally, I feel this may have severe implications for people with a strong inner game.)
Look at this and next time you ask a question think about it. One of the best things about asking questions and talking to others is you see things through another perspective. This is even better on the Internet where it's anonymous and the people you're talking to are most likely not to be jaded and be neutral without anything to gain other than the satisfaction from giving others quality, helpful and useful advice.
Think about how much you are deceiving yourself, based on the outcome you desire.
Hope this helps. Mods if you want to move this feel free. I felt this was the best section.
