Did you find that you needed to approach woman differently than some of the tactics here? More pull, less push, Even some dlving. Just wondering, in general, what your experience has been.

I'm frequently told by girls I'm handsome, though I'd say I'm probably merely above average.

Regardless, you're thinking incorrectly. Do you have a lot of exp with girls? Females are not really attracted to looks. They are (largely bc of biology) attracted to your value as a male. And as you become more valuable as a male, you will realize girls will become more interested in you.

The only thing I suspect is looks attract similar looks. There have been studies showing girls will choose a mate that is rated [by a pool of girls] around their same # rating [by a pool of males]. Not only that but looks are relative. Most girls that have liked me have been smaller in size height and width and have similar facial features. Everyone has imperfections.

Either way I would tailor your approach to a female based on things she tells you, how she reacts to you, and her behavior, rather than your looks...
