i do recall reading the first book of the celestine prophecies, but don't remember how they perceived the energy exchange. was it a red line?
i did at one time perceive the energy exchange between people when i partied with a group of people from all walks of life. it happened as we were sitting in a circle and having fun conversation. to me it looked the way hot air above heated asphalt looks in a hot summer, with the difference, that it wasn't rising up but flowing from one person to another or several people at the same time. the energy beam had about the diameter of a football.
it was a interesting thing to see the flow of energy and in retrospect, it also helped me get hooked up with a girl that could have been Kylie Minogue's clone.
unfortunately, i can't tell you how to learn it. you may want to look into the works of Carlos Castaneda just to get another perspective of reality, learn dowsing and try listening to Hemi-Sync tunes such as "scanning the band" of the Monroe Institute or even go as far as using some recreational drugs to "loosen up" a bit. but i can't tell what will work for you. there are methods to learn it out there, but in the end, these methods won't work for everybody.
all i can say is, that such things for sure happen easier with a group of people.... due to the "
group energy" of folks who get along well with each other or share the same interests. thus energy mongers or alpha males may be a hindrance to developing such "group energies".

ps: although group energy seems to work best to enable paranormal experiences you may want to boost your own "energy" . try doing the Tibetian Rites, they're quite doable and not hard core cardio...
