Recently decided I want something other than the ordinary pint of beer to drink - Whisky seems a sensible option.

I am a complete beginner in Whisky. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to drink? What are some good beginner whisky's that don't have too much kick, because I want to ease in.

Any whisky drinkers out there?

You might like a plain Jack Daniels or Johnny Walker Black Label.
For my personal taste, Glenfiddich Ancient Reserve (18y) is among my favourites :)

And please, don't take it with ice... it ruins the taste!

Jack is probably the most accessible Whisky for someone who has never drunk it before.

Whiskey Press

Its one of the smoothest whiskey drinks I know.

1 oz rum
2 oz water
1 oz Coke

Spritz of lime.

So where exactly is the whiskey in this?

They say, "whiskey is risky but it makes the girls frisky". That and "whiskey dick", where you can't get your dick hard when you need to due to the alcohol in your system. I started with JD in college along with Natural Light/Ice beer because it was cheap.

Now I go to meetings for drug/alcohol addiction. Mentally, I'd rather be sober and sane to tell you the truth. Plus, the whole puking thing never really appealed to me...

Think BEFORE you drink. Ask yourself, "what is this going to do to my mind, body, (and spirit). Also, alcohol is a downer drug.

Whiskey does NOT enhance driving abilities, regardless of what you tell the peace officer.

Just make every other drink a glass of water, juice, or soda. The most common are Jim, Jack, and Johnny. I couldn't say if there are lower proof whiskeys, but the lower proof drinks are usually sold at the supermarket while the higher proof drinks are sold at a specific store for booze.

Depends on your taste. As a general rule,
Bourbons and other American Whiskeys are quite sweet and therefor an easy introductory drink. They also go ok with Ice because they have enough sweetness to carry flavour.

Irish Whiskey is generally quite smooth like American Whiskeys but is a little less sweet. Goes really well with a small dash of room temperature water. Some are sweeter but never as sweet as Bourbon because Bourbon is made with corn.

Scotch Whisky and English blends tend to be smokier and less sweet. Mainstream cheap ones such as Johnny Walker Red and Black Douglas are sweeter and more palatable to the beginners taste. They should never be drank with ice if you want to appreciate the taste.

Hope that helps buddy.
