I have been trying to analyze myself and found wisdom beyond myself...

Kind of catchy isnt it?

I asked myself a question which we should all ask ourselves? Why?

Why are we here, why are we learning pick-up, why are we dedicated to getting this one thing mastered?


I realized that there are a few general classes of people, a few general approaches to pick-up... Ok, there may be more and I am sure some of you fall outside my cathegories but I wanna make a point here.

First, we are all here to learn or to teach. In one way or the other, be it sharing thoughts or giving advice or asking questions.

I realized that the posts tell a lot about the attitude of the writer. Some posts are mere HELP, questions. Some posts are WHY questions. Some posts are, HEY I made this new routine up, would it work, questions.

The responses to these questions are even more interesting, they too can be subdivided into different types.
Some are, I know it all, everybody else sucks, types. Some are, I would have done this and that, types. Some are, really good advice types. Some are discussion types and there are many many more but I will focus on the most interesting ones.


From all of these types of input I have found some stereotypical PUA types.

The Emotional vampire.
Are you dedicated to learn pick-up in order to get an emotional connection to people. In order to be the one that controls your emotional connections to others? A person who have had problems in the past with lack of love, lack of choices... A person who have always had to suck up to people to be accepted?
If you could, would you go from girl to girl and enjoy the attention, the feeling of being needed? Do you want reassurance that even if you move away from a girl, you can get a new one? Are you afraid of loneliness? Are you aware that you would be behaving in the same way that you thought popular people lived their lives? Taking the emotional attention they got from one person and then moving on to the next target? An Emotional Vampire...

In a way, I sure belong here...

The social misfit.
Were you the unpopular kid at school? Were you unable to get what other people found so faschinating about whatever it was at the time? Did you not enjoy sharing their stupid thoughts and ideals? Did you consider yourself having better ideals than most of the rest of the stupid human species? Did this show in your relation to others? Did you have problems identifying with others? And finally, now the game gives you a way to fit in, socially. You just have to follow a simple set of rules... The social misfit finds the cure.


The Powerhungry Maniac.
The moment you started reading the game it blew your mind. For the first time something actually made sense. You read and read and tried to understand. Finally you thought you had the answer, just like you did last week and the week before. You started finding that people read your opinions and told them whatever it was that you believed, at the moment. It was more about getting attention and being right than about helping others or learning yourself. No real need for experience or good reasoning, as long as you can win the discussion... Thats Power... Finally you are an expert on something... Damn the one who dares oppose or hurt your ego!


The Cutie.
You just wanna find a girlfriend to love! Thats great!

The Teacher.
You wanna help people, you know that you have experience and can help others. You have been in their situation and can share your knowledge. We love you man! You really care about that people will get the right "education"...

I desperatly hope I am more this kind than the powerhungry one.


The Student.
You wanna know whats behind it all. You find Pick-Up to be more than just getting the girl, it is to understand the human mind. And yourself.

The Wise One.
You realize that this is a way to build a life. This in itself is important but it is just the beginning. It opens up a way to greater knowledge and to improve your life in other areas as well.



So, just for fun I have shared some of my stereotypical PUAs but the main question is:

Are you doing this for personal development and building a life?

OR

Are you doing this to heal your damaged Ego?

Would you not agree that nearly everyone on the forum displays aspects of all the stereotypes you mentioned in your post?
To be honest, I see a pattern in most people where they go through a stage of each:
they start as the social misfit ---> The student and then the emotional vampire. (lots of people stop here)

This continues onto the teacher which soon becomes the power hungry maniac. (most people stop here)

The last few become the Wise ones. But I still think they maintain aspects of the previous stages.

What about those in it for sheer kicks?

I love PU as an art form and a way of self developement in life. But for some people, this is just another thing?

My opinion is that those stereotypes focus on the idea that the practitioner is either a compassionate teacher, or an emotional leech wanting to make up for lost years.
Out of all those stereotypes they fall into just two categories.

"Are you doing this for personal development and building a life?

OR

Are you doing this to heal your damaged Ego? "


I'm a third gen kinda guy, attractive lifestyle and all that jazz, but I find this to be far to black and white way to split the community.

I'm here for a couple of reasons initially for pure I am lonely lets fix it, now I like helping people. Absolutely love getting PMs like "thanks I got a gf now" makes me feel for all the asshole things I do I am doing some good (redemption a reason? lol).

Other than that I love understanding people and have found that this is a great way to learn things to improve your entire life.

And finally without getting too mushy I love the people in the community mostly positive cool people, which are surprisingly rare

Ah, maybe I forgot to mention that I am not out to judge, preach or split the community in black and white... I merely went on a soulserarch journey and it helped me realize that I needed to make some changes in my own attitude. I think everyone could use thak, even if it means realizing that you are a great guy.

Sure, everyone have certain aspects of all stereotypes but I am trying to point out the one that is the dominant one, the driving force, the reason why you wanna learn it.

And yeah, I completely agree, even if you become old and wise you maintain some aspects of who you were... I am and will always be incredible annoying...

Yes the stereotypes mentioned does not cover everyone in the community, there are some other persons as well, these are merely pointed out because they are common and some of them might need attention if you come far enough to realize it.

Despite what you might think now, I love the people in this community as well and I expect you guys to post stuff that have helped you in your life (like this post) even if it means insulting me. You cannot get by only with positive criticism...

i think i would be a little bit in every type

when i was younger i wasnt good at connecting with people i wanted.
through highschool i was deff the social misfit and it went hand in hand with power hungry maniac. thoughts like "one day theyll see who i really am, ill have respect then... "

cutie for sure, i just want to cuddle?

i want to be the guy that guys come for help and advice.

i love the psychology used in this and talking to friends about ideas.

i have realized this is much more than just getting the girl, being well conditioned in social situations will get you further.

It's an interesting post Ezo, and it's obvious you put a good deal of thought into it. Not to beat a dead horse I won't say that I am a little of everything. I think that I am a student, clearly but I hope that someday I can be a Wise Teacher, if I might combine the two.
