First and foremost, I'm fully back. I know it has been a while since I have written any posts and that's because my life has been hectic, I have some more time now so the posts, video's and everything else will start appearing again!

Right, I am not just going to tell you the key to learning great game here, but the key to learning almost any skill you could ever want to know - whats even better is this is just the start of what I have planned!

Everyone here, the new guy, me, hell, even the mPUA's need to do this! EVERYONE needs to do this because nobody is perfect. There is always room for improvement always look to improve. This is the best way to improve, the best way to get great and the best way to have fun along the way!

Its a simple 3 step process that you will repeating all through your life:

Listen -----> Try ------> Adapt

Yes, it really is that simple. Now to break it down!

Listen
This should be fairly obvious. Listen to everyone! Just take it all on, every little bit. If someone gives you some advice, tells you something, shows you how to do something take it all in. This is the key to learning, its why humans have done so much, we work together and share idea's.
Here is the bit a lot of people forget, listen to everyone but also nobody! This might seem like a contradiction but hear me out.
Nobody can tell you the best way for YOU to do something, don't listen to one person and believe that their way is best. To the same extent, dont instantly dismiss idea's just because they don't come from an "expert". What I am trying to say is take all advice with a pinch of salt. Listen to it all and then move onto the next step:

Try
So in theory what they said sounds perfect, you have seen them do it and it worked but how do you know it will work for you? You don't.
Assuming the idea isn't really stupid give it a try. Actually get off your arse and go and try it. All you people who knock mystery for wearing that hat, ever tried it? Sure, it might seem retarded but what harm will putting a silly hat on for one night do.... worst case you get blown out all night, best case you get everything you want. Take what you have listened to and give it a shot!

Adapt
This is the last step, the most important and unfortunately the one people tend to miss out completely. To tackle this I need to split it into two possibility's, you tried and failed or you tried and succeeded.
Lets first cover if what you try doesn't work. At this point you adapt it so it will work! Look at what went wrong, take your understanding of it and then re-apply it with other things to get a better result. Not all things you try can be adapted, but lots can. Using the fluffy pink hat again, maybe you get shot down faster than a spitfire in WW2, its not the hats fault since it worked for someone else - it just didnt work for you. The idea is to get attention, so rather than using something that extreme try something else. That is adapting from failure!

Adapting from success is something hardly anyone does! Most people when they try something new that works just keep doing it, this is cutting yourself short. Look at why it worked, try and refine it. Think of paracetamol, its in willow bark but we no longer chew on that if we have a sore head. Sure it worked, but it could be refined to become a lot better. This is what you have to do when you try something and get good results. Try mixing it with other things, getting to the basics of why it works and then taking them. Maybe some bits work better than the other etc etc.

Thats it, thats how you become great at any skill:

Listen -----> Try -----> Adapt

ok, that comic has got to be one of my favorites of all time (though i have seen it before, it bears repeating!). but then again, math geek here.

as to listen>try>adapt, bravo, madals! absolutely true. adapting is definitely the most important, and that is often what feedback is good for. it's good to have someone else who can watch and point out where you could use improvement and where you are doing well.

on a side note, NOBODY has perfect game. period. there is always room for improvement and there is always slight differences from one person to the next. so don't worry if you mess up, it happens to the best of us. keep on moving forward and adapting!
