Are there any guides or advice you can give me on tackling hired guns (in this case a burlesque dancer), any tips or routines (despite my hate for them) etc would be good

Sit at the bar, don't look at them. If at all possible befriend the DJ. Keep your money in your pocket and don't get a lap dance or anything. If one offers to you just say "I'm not in that head space."

Have a reason to be there. Either you are meeting friends before heading out, or you know someone there already. If talking with them you have to neg them like crazy. Tell them a short story about you and your ex girlfriend, who was also an exotic dancer. Show them respect and don't belittle them for their job. DHV like crazy and don't show any interest in their looks at all, but if one talks to you long enough you can start to show interest back.
