Alcohol is a depressent, and is bad for your body. If you're feeling depressed, don't drink. You may think "I have a great time when i'm drunk", but the truth is it's not good for you to drink while depressed.
Cannabis, if used in the proper manner can help calm nerves, and relax. However, most people are incapable of using it in only this manner, and because of this i would NOT reccomend starting to smoke because you feel stressed, or depressed. That leads to mental addiction, which is what Simcity was refering to as marijuana's addictive properties. Marijuana has no physical addictive properties, just mental, which come into play when used to relieve stress, depression, or is used consistantly for long periods of time. I won't get into the marijuana to heroin argument because it's irrevelent.
Anywho, the point of that being if you're depressed, you need to work through it sober. Find a good friend who you can talk to, or start seeing a therapist. I've overanalyzed things for years, and once I learned how to handle it (through a professional therapist's help) life became much more enjoyable. I don't feel the need to smoke, or drink anymore, and i love life
