I find HOTORNOT.com VERY interesting.

I uploaded my photos onto the site at the suggestion of David Deangello's Double Your Dating. If you don't know how it works, you upload a photo of yourself, vote on other people, and they vote on you. I found that it's accurate on women 99.9% of the time. The most physically attractive girls always get the highest scores, the least get the worst scores, and the average girls get the middle scores. About 15% score 9 or higher, the same as in the real world.

I waited till I had a few hundred votes, then looked at my score - 9.3 I thought what the hell? I'm 6' tall, but skinny; handsome, but by no means a pretty boy. Am I a 9.3? Uploaded a close up of my face - 9.4. I thought, if I'm getting these scores, what are other men getting? So I looked.


With men the results are startling - about 50% of guys get a result of 9 or higher. I thought about this for a while, and realised that the explanation can only be one of two things. Either a) women are not as honest as men about how physically attractive they find the pictures on the site, and give them all high votes to be nice. Or b) a man only needs to fulfill a few basic criteria to be fully physically attractive to a woman - so long as a guy has all four limbs, relatively normal facial proportions and isn't VERY ugly or VERY fat, he is perfectly attractive to them!

Maybe they don't make the kind of distinctions between men that men make between women when it comes to physical attraction.

If a man sees a woman with 20% larger breats, 20% fuller lips and 20% more curvaceous feminine figure, she will be at least 20% more attractive to him. A man may imagine that if he is 20% taller and 20% more muscular, he will be 20% more attractive to women, but this doesn't appear to be the case.

If you look at this from the perspective of evolutionary psychology it makes a lot of sense. The physical features that make a woman sexually attractive develop during adolesence in response to how much oestrogen her body produces, and thus display how fertile she is. Since (and I hate to upset any feminists amongst you) fertility is by far the most important trait in a man's potential mate, it makes complete sense for a man to be obsessed with women's physical attributes, and to judge from these how attractive she is. He will be able to rate women's attractiveness accordingly and make distinctions in attractiveness directly from variances in her looks.

To a woman however, what she needs in a mate is much more complex, and is not discernable to the eye: she needs a man who is well connected socially, has influence and respect, someone skilled and cunning; she needs a man who can make her laugh. A man's looks communicate to her how well he can perform basic physical tasks. If we say that there are at least five factors which make a woman attracted to a man, four of which are social, and one physical, and we ascribe to them equal importance, it follows that a man who is 20% physically more attractive than other men only really looks 4% more attractive overall to a woman, since she has evolved to desire many things from a mate and is therefore less influenced by any one single attribute. Women = complicated.

It seems to me that whilst women idolise very beautiful men like Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and David Beckham for their exceptional aesthetic qualities (couldn't really think of a less gay word than beautiful there) they just don't feel a degree of attraction toward a man correlate with his physical attributes.

What I do think is a phenomenon is that very physically attractive men get given special SPAM by society; this increases their confidence and quality of life immeasurably, and they therefore develop personalities and social status that are irresistable to women. How can an average guy attain a great inner game, and trigger attraction in women, in a society that does place its main emphasis on looks?

Interesting article. How did you find that 50% of the men are 9+? It thought the score was based upon you score compared to all the other scores in a percentile ranking? If this is not the case, then the whole Hot or Not concept is highly flawed.

Several things I notice with Hot or Not, the quality of your picture matters. It matters whether you smile or not. It matters if your picture has a girl next to you (but only showing stuff like her hair but not her whole face). Your clothing style matters.

Hot or Not is all phsyical, so I don't see how a girl can really rate you based upon your personality unless each and every one of them reads the introduction section for each guy (highly doubt all of them are even read). Plus a lot of the pictures I have seen are only of face shots, so you can't tell if a person is missing a digit or limb, etc.

Of course look matters. Why a guy would approach a not attractive girl? It matters at the begining. After that it all depends of your personnality.

I would have to say that most guys are around an 8-9 on this site.

However, keep in mind that girls are probably only 5s who are rating these guys.

To get an accurate idea of how hot girls view a 9, think of this:

a 5 rating a guy will be 9 on average

a 6 rating a guy will be 8 on average

a 7 rating a guy will be 6 on average

an 8 rating a guy will be a 4 on average

a 9 rating a guy will be a 3 on average

a 10 rating a guy will be about a 1 or a 2 on average.



Factor in how how the girl is. Hotter girls will probably think a guy is less hot.

As I mention in another thread here, hotornot is very inaccurate when it comes to this sort of thing. Primary due to all of the variables. A lot of those variables have to do with the photo itself and how good it is and if you go to the trouble of editing the photo. You can certainly get a general sense of where you land, but it is in no way a good indicator to see where you actually land look wise when it comes to girls.

I am curious how did you exactly come up with this system?
Why do you say that?

A friend of mine uses this website, he said that ALMOST everybody had a rating of 8 or higher.

I am pretty curious about this aswell.

I checked it out and I'm calling bs on this site. I looked at girls only between 18 and 25, and the ones I rated a 2 or 3 have a 9.2 average, and definite 1's seem to be 8's now. (Looked at about 25-40 pictures.)

One could call me picky and wouldn't be completely wrong, but I'm not this bad. This site probably has a lot of "Everyone is beautiful in their own special way"-type of people.

I actually got really curious about this site when I read this post. I remembered when I was listening to a video by Mystery where he actually said that the hotter a woman is, the less hot a guy will be. By the way I am not all for Mystery, however I do not argue with this statement. I decided to test this with a few of my girl friends. It held true depending on how hot the girl was. The hotter girls thought a guy wasn't that cute, while less hotter ones thought he was more cute.

This is the reason why we have game though. I didn't mean to sound discouraging on this post. If you think about it, we would automatically expect 8s-10s to think of any guy under a 4. If 8s-10s automatically thought we were 6s and 7s we wouldn't really need game right? Of course, if you are well maintained and have good features, there will always be exceptions to the rules, allowing the hotter ones to think you are better looking than a normal guy.

Again, I looked at some of the girls who posted pictures on this site. They were about a 5 on average (being a bit generous), which is where I got that from. Even though this is not a controlled experiment, it gave me a general idea towards how this site works.



I urge you guys to test this out because the girls who were under an 8 really varied in their ratings. Some 7s and 6s gave the same opinions as the hotter girls. Overall I asked about 10-15 girls I am friends with, but this can be a more interesting experiment if you ask around. I only had about 3 or 4 girls to ask that were above a 7 so again i'm sorry that this may not be totally accurate.

Yeah thats probably because you can game girls above a 6 and the guys on that generally game girls around a 2 or 3 in your opinion. Those guys might thing the girls who are just average are about a 9. Whatever we wont judge... everyone needs some ass LOL

How does that work exactly? Because that makes no sense at all. How does the physical attraction level of a girl lowers the physical attraction level of a guy?
I don't know about you, but I sure hell don't think like that. Every girl is going to rate a guy different much like us guys do.
Uh we would still need game no matter how physically attractive us guys are.
That is because I am. This whole thing seems to be drawn out by some mindset you have created. But I would also like to point out that how many average looking girls become 8's just by "dolling" themselves up for the night out.
Uh last time I was on hotornot you had NO IDEA of what girls where rating you. So you have no idea if a bunch of 4/5's where rating you or you had a nice lot of 8's rating you as well. I have seen hot girls on hotornot.
Its not accurate at all. Like us guys what one guys considers hot another may think is average or even ugly. The same goes for girls. To get a more "accurate" survey you be better to ask random girls in public.

there are quiet a few websites to rate pictures, try a few more and get some general data, that will reveal the answers to your questions
