Bingo. It really is that simple. Most people view long-term, exclusive relationships as a means of "settling down," where they trade the excitement and unpredictability of their day-to-day lives for mowing the grass, working their 9-5, maybe having a couple kids and basically just
existing. Hardly a romantic-sounding endeavor, right?
Instead, I view my long-term girlfriends as
companions in the never-ending adventure of my life, so that's what they become. I won't settle for spending my nights in front of a TV somewhere watching Desperate Housewives or whatever other distraction from living it becomes tempting to fall into. Doing so would make me miserable and probably break my spirit, so instead of changing my life because I'm in an LTR, I invite my LTR to come take part in it as it is.
Enjoy each others' company as you live your life; don't make enjoying each others' company your life. The first is fun and awesome. The second will play out very quickly.
