OK, so myself and a friend went out last night to celebrate his boss' birthday. We went out to a popular local pub/bar (Wetherspoons), but our agenda was to pick up girls.

We went out earlier in the afternoon to try our day game... Which was a total fail. There were only HB6's around town and the best targets were on the move. Needless to say, it rocked our confidence slightly.

So, we're out in Wetherspoons and meet up with our group. They don't believe the whole Mystery Method/under the radar, so I set out to prove them wrong.

I approach a 4 set of HB9's and squat down to their level.

Me "Hey girls, I need your opinion on this... I'm in a band and we're stuck in a rut, we need to know what makes a good song: lyrics or a beat?"

The girls chatter amongst themselves and most of them pick a good beat, during which time my friend (Mark The Saint) comes along and asks if I've seen another friend. I reply with a no and he goes away, now I've already DHV'd myself to the girls with my band, I get to DHV him by telling them I'm jealous of his travels and army ambitions.

He comes back and I introduce him, the girls are all smiles to both us. I threw in a time constraint at the beginning and said that we had to back to our group, but that we might see them around later. Our group were still skeptical and one guy offered to buy me a drink for every number I got.

We went to another pub, but after closing time, we headed back to Wetherspoons. I went up to the bar and there was a HB10 blonde in a small black dress, so as drunk guys were staring at her, I went under the radar...

Me "Hey, I need a female opinion on this... A friend has been going out with this girl for a while and he's really into her, but we caught her kissing somebody at a club. Would you consider this cheating if she was kissing a girl?"

She was all smiles and said it wasn't cheating.

Me "But if she kisses a guy, is that still OK?"
HB10 "No, that would be cheating."
Me "Whoa, but that's double standards."

She laughed and then my drinks came, so I left it open by thanking her for her insight as I went back to my friends.

A tall guy approached the HB10 blonde and her HB9 brunette friend, he was totally obvious with his intentions, but the brunette was loving it. I could tell the blonde was bored and wanted attention, the tall guy had introduced his friend to the HB10... But her body language to him was so closed off that he left.

I approached another two set sitting alone, they were HB6's. I tried the song opener (good beats/good lyrics) and they went with a good beat. I tried another opener that I recently came up with.

Me "OK girls, who do you prefer: Woody or Buzz?"

They look at each other giggling.

Girl "There's nothing sexual there is there?"

I laughed and told them it was innocent.

Girl "OK, I'd have to say Woody."
Other Girl "I don't like Tom Hanks."

I could tell the anti-Tom Hanks girl wasn't liking this, I needed something to break down her barrier.

Me "OK, I'm guessing you have an interesting hobby..."
Tom Hanks hater "No."
Me "Hmmm... Do you collect African coins?"
Tom Hanks hater "No."
Me "OK, that was just a warm up."

I did the cube game and she was shocked with the results, but the children thing was wrong.

Mark The Saint came along and asked where our friend was, I told him I hadn't seen him, during which time I tried DHVing him, but the Tom Hanks hater was too interested in the Cube game. So, by the time Mark came back, I had no chance of DHVing.

We left the group to go back to our friend (Simon), he said that the two HB6's that I had opened were now at a slot machine and looking back at us. Later that night, Simon swooped in and picked up from my hard graft. At least I got a thank you.

Remember the HB10 blonde, HB9 brunette and their new male friend? Well, they were now seated where the HB6's were. The guy had his arm around the HB9 and the HB10 was on the opposite side of the table alone. I had to go in there.

I walked past casually and turned past my shoulder and asked the guy and the HB9 their opinion on the "girl cheating with a girl" convo. They got chatting and the HB10 was smiling at me.

HB9 "I'd say that wasn't cheating."
Guy "I'd say tell him, he might like it."

The girls were laughing, I wasn't sure of what he thought of me right now.

Me "OK, but if she kissed a guy is that cheating?"
HB9 "Yeah, that is cheating."

I looked at the HB10 and said...

Me "You said exactly the same earlier, that is total double standards."

The girls laughed while the guy looked at me with a smirk.

Guy "You've got a lot of confidence haven't you?"
Me "I'd like to think so."
Guy "How would you like to work for me?"

I couldn't tell whether he was trying to be Alpha or was being sincere.

Me "What is it you do?"
Guy "I'm in sales. I have a job for you, if you're interested."
Me "Sound interesting."

The convo went on and I mentioned I'd done door-to-door surveys for the council and after so many door slam, you learn to try new approaches.

All 3 were looking at me with open body language and interest.

I asked the girls what they did and they told me. I wanted to neg the blonde so bad, but couldn't bring myself to it, everything had gone well up until now. She had a slight overbite and I could've worked Style's famous Dalene Kurtis "cutest Buggs Bunny overbite".

After a phonecall from Mark, I moved out... With the guy's number.
He told me to ring him on Tuesday to talk about a job. I didn't get a chance to get the HB10's number or even try any isolation game.

Me, Mark and Simon moved next door to a club. This club is 21+ and I managed to get in (Simon's 22, Mark's 21 and I'm still only 20).

We bumped into my Uncle and we caught up with each other.

There was a HB7 girl who was drunk beyond belief who I danced with and tried talking to, but she was too far gone.

During the last stages of the night, there were several IOIs with her and I got a kiss before leaving. Perhaps not the kiss I wanted, but the day had gone well.

So, to break it down. All of the openers I tried worked, it was just a matter of me getting more isolation tactics and negs.

We're out again next Saturday and last night was a major confidence boost, so I'll be reporting how we get on again. All in a day's work.

The song one is innocent and impressive at the same time, I've got Mark The Saint to thank for that.

Yeah, I couldn't tell whether he was being genuine or just AMOGing.

With a line like "you can work for me", I didn't know whether to take that as him being my superior or if he was praising me.

Little things like this I need to work on, but for a first attempt it wasn't too bad.

Interesting read, I think you are good at your openers and relaxed in your approach but you have the same problem as I do.

Moving it into comfort/attraction. Perhaps its a fear of rejection? ie not being bold enough to move HB10 into isolation and not neging.
The advice I give myself is just to practise and practise until it is natural.
We can all close but I'm meaning doing it naturally on a regular basis, which is why we are all here right?

Oh I think you made right call not to neg on overbite, maybe something a bit more subtle?

I think the guy was AMOGing you so he could get DHV from you with his HB9.
If it was me I would have probably just tried to brush it off (you don't need a conflict he is helping you by distracting HB9 CB), he may even bump it up a bit to massage his own ego and start qualifying himself to you!

Or maybe if you were feeling brave say, no thanks I already had a paper round!!

Thanks, I thought every opener went smoothly. A lot better than I imagined actually.

Another wrench in the gears for the HB10 blonde was that I approached their group as Wetherspoons was 10 minutes away from closing, so I was under a tight time limit.

As for the guy, I'm not going to call him and I wish I would've used something like your paper round jab. That is classic!

As I said, we're out this coming Saturday, so we're able to look at what went wrong and correct ourselves and make it more natural.

As you said, that's why we're on here.

Well I think my downfall is definately practise, I'm not shy but do need to be smoother.

I'm going to go out this weekend and get rejected as much as I can!!
