This afternoon, my cousin and I arrived at a coffee shop (small eat-in joint) where we were to meet his girlfriend and a group of her female friends when they finished school.
We arrived and one of her friends, an 8, whom I identified as the target, was already sitting on her own at a table outside. My cousin introduced me and we talked for a bit.
Mistake: After ordering my burger, I should have returned to the table, as I find three sets easy to game. I could have built some attraction, got "in" with the target and thus "in" with the group that was to arrive. Instead, i went to the toilet.
So when I returned, my cousin, his GF, the target and two other girls were all sitting at the table. I now had to find myself a chair to bring over and try to get in with the group.
So although I was not in a very favourable position, we PUA's know that any set can be gamed. Here, however, is where I stuck this afternoon:
In a set with 2 or 3 people, they are there to talk to YOU. When entering a much larger set, however, they already have their own little thing going. Not knowing these girls at all, they were talking about all their stuff like what happened at school that day, what car someone drove, who was with who, all stuff that I was sitting listening to thinking, fuck, how do I get in on this.
The way I could see it was that despite us all being seated at the same table, there was a 2-set with my cousin and his GF, a 3-set with the target and her two friends, and a broken 2-set between me and the target (only because she was conveniently seated next to me) which didnt last or flow as she was more interested and invested in her two friends.
Basically, I felt like I had to say something really good that would grab them all in, but all i could come up with were the occasional weak comment or maybe a little cocky n funny gesture - although they were good and grabbed the attention of maybe one girl for a moment, they quickly would resume their own set. The more time went on, the more it felt like anywhy I wouuld say wouldjust be fuuuuckin weird. I know ishould'nt have let it get to this, but obviously, i had no idea what to do initially. I treated the set as if i was (already) in a 2 or 3 set, and the negative momentum just kept buildin up untill i felt shit and lost the will to game on...
I hope I have conveyed the situation well enought for you guys to get a vibe for where I'm coming from, and all advice and criticism is strongly welcomed.
I love this game, but please help me learn to handle these larger sets
