That's right, what would you do?
here's the scene... Thrusday night, bar down town, not the jam packed one, but the one next door. slim pickens.

I'm at the bar gettin my first drink, my friend Johnny sees this 3 set, HB5, HB8, HB4. I watch out of the corner of my eye while he opens, isos the target, and have the friends snatch her RIGHT back away. by this time I'm done fluffin up the bar tender, HB6 and head back to the table my buddy and johnny were waiting at, so i asked him what he did, what was said. He did the whole 21 questions AFC whats your name, where ya work blah blah blah. I told him the main thing he did wrong was not engage the whole group, and gave too much attention to the target right away.

So I play it cool, as the 3 set have their backs to me, and are non approachable, guys keep gettin denied and its not good to approach when they got their backs to ya.

Finally I see a window. I roll. "HI!" big ol shitty grin on my face, they are very receptive. They ask me next how I am doin. "I'm awesome! I got a question for ya though, at what age is it exceptable to carry around a handkerchief?

I ask just the two 5&4 to the side of me, ignore the HB8, the

HB8 "never, thats gross."
me "sorry honey, never isn't a choice, I asked at what age."
HB5&4 " I dunno.."
me "well if a 60 year old man pulled one out right now, you wouldn't think twice about it, but if i pulled one out (pulled out my bandanna that was hanging out of my pocket) wiped my nose, you'd all look at me like i was crazy."
HB 5 is now giving me IOIs like crazy, shes laughin, hittin me, saying your funny.
HB8 "ha I think you need to come up with a better pick up line."
me "this is not a pick up line, you'd know it if it was,"
I turn to HB4 and say "I think she is totally hitting on me."
HB4 "oh I think so, and if she is not I think she should."

after this the hb8 kinda turns her back and ignores me, i play it off for a while, chat up the other ones, then excuse my self to get back to my friends.

I thought I played it smooth, prob not the best line, but I didn't care, besides I hate the whole "I got a question for ya" I'd rather do natural, but this was the first routine I tried to run, and I kept it original. but what you guys think?

what could I have done to keep the HB8 going forward, she was totally trying to dog me, but I wouldn't let it happen, then I think she got mad that she couldn't get under my skin.

First off, solid work opening the set and working with them. They seemed into you and kept the frame of reference past their shit tests.

Since you wanted the HB8, lets focus on your interaction with her. Whenever you say to someone something to the effect of "this is not a pickup line, you'd know it if it was", it sends across a message of insecurity and disrupts the comfort you are creating. She thinks, "Well I know he's hitting on me" or "what, hes getting really serious?!?". It is counter-productive to what you are attempting to do.

So what do we know about our HB8 at this point? She has a bitch-sheild up, and has been hit on before. The girls she has with her are protection, and she has now isolated you. Time to match her by turning the tables.

She has given you a door to open. You could turn it into a game. To keep her in the conversation and put her on the spot, use her friends. You could say something like, "well, since I am no good at it (*smiling to her friends), you should show us (*us is key here, you associate her friends with you, she is becoming the outsider) what a 'pickup artist' does. Here, you be the pickup artist (*motion her to get up if she is sitting), and I will be the girl of your desires (*you take the seat, now keep her friends involved). Do you girls think he will be any good at this?

What you have now done is put yourself inside the group with the two girls. If the girl keeps up her bitch-sheild and says "no thats lame/gay/stupid/etc", you can look at her friends and go "is she like this all the time?" and she is isolated further. If she does it, she is in your frame of reference, and is now putty in your hands all night. You can compliment on her style, tell her she has failed to attract you (keeping yourself as a prize), and can have a lot of fun with it. The key is to isolate her and insert yourself in the group.
