Went to a house party and was in a three set. Easy opinion opener started a conversation. Then as the conversation went on, the target interrupts me, and I use the neg "Geez, where's her off button?" then the target got defensive and eventually walked away. She eventually came back, but I wasn't able to get back in her good graces

I have two theories on why this happened.

1.) I thought she was at least an HB8 so I would have been able to get away with the neg, but maybe she just wasn't used to being hit on?

2.) My delivery.

In conclusion, I think I just have to calibrate.

You have it spot on there, I'm not one for clichés but as my mother always told me "It's not what you say, it's how you say it"

you should say it with a nice smile, like youre telling the world's funniest joke. I think you were like all serious and went "geez do you have an off button?" i would get ticked when someone all serious says that to me.

Yeah, I think when I said it, I had a smirk on my face rather than a friendly smile. I think I need to try and be more aware of that.

Thanks!

Yes I did say the neg to the obstacles, and now that I think about it... I think that another reason why the girl got angry was because I waited for a response.

I have a feeling that if I said the neg with a playful smile and continued on with the conversation WITHOUT hesitation, I might have done better.

YES. Don't wait for a reaction, just keep talking to her friends.
