Hey so this is my first field report. Suffice it to say I failed miserably and am pretty depressed. For starters I am an American going to college in Australia. I went to the campus bar tonight because a lot of people go there on Wednesdays.

I show up and after about 5-10 minutes I notice two girls talking to each other (standing up). Neither are particularly good looking. I figure this is the perfect opportunity. I approach from the front.

Me: "Hey, how's it going?"

Them: some common response

Me: "I have a question for you guys. My friend from back in the States has been dating her boyfriend for 2 years. When she decided to come here for a semester they made it an open relationship and they are planning to get back together when she gets back. What do you guys think?

Them: They barely discussed this at all it seemed like.

Then we went into just random conversation about where I was from and where I was living around campus. I asked them about how they knew each other and where they lived.

The whole time they seemed pretty uninterested and kept talking about how lame the bar was and that they wanted to leave. (It was pretty lame). I did a game with them I saw on youtube. Where you ask who has the worst vocabulary then ask how many words the other can say without the letter A. Then I said I could get the other one with a bad vocabulary to say more in one minute without the letters A,B,C just by saying three words to get her started. "One, two, three," and so on. They found that exciting but ended up getting bored and eventually leaving the bar. No number close or anything. I wasn't even close.

Also at one point during the conversation my friend walked up and we talked a little bit. I didn't come with him I just saw him there.

Obviously I did poorly. What do I need to do? You guys need any other details for clarification? I did the best I could at recalling.

I tried more sets that night but I will put them in another post.
