Can doing this be a gamble? As in what if it doesn't get you laid? Allow me to elaborate on what I mean with this clip, which I think gives a good example. In this scene Christian Troy comes off as a genius - but could he have just as easily looked like a fool? In this case, he says whatever it takes, by giving an apology. Btw, there's no need to watch anything else in episode to understand the scene - starts at 38:00

Did the apology make him look better? On the one hand, it reassured her that he was more of an asshole than she thought. But on the other, he was man enough to admit he was wrong. The thing is, it's just a small bit obvious he's apologizing in the hope of getting laid. As a shrink, she should know that. Or is she just too distracted by the fact that she's so glad to hear it? Did it really make her think that he was going to start becoming less of an a-hole from then on.

At the point where he's told to go away, his only leverage was to ease the thoughts that were on her mind. So him apologising (showing a different side of himself, just briefly), essentially gives her the small amount of hope that it may be possible to earn his approval, and therefore might make her desperate to earn it.

We're actually not sure whether or not he actually thinks he's in the wrong, or whether he pretended to be sorry to make her feel better. My question is, would he be stupid to pretend he's sorry even if he isn't? just in case it might get him laid? The last thing he'd want to hear her say is something like "don't be sorry, just don't do it again" or "oh it's okay, don't worry about it, you're good". Now if you were in his shoes, you wouldn't want to hear such a response if you actually knew you WEREN'T in the wrong. You'd feel like a bit of a fool, right?!

Ever feel like that at times? that you try pulling some stunt that ends up making you look like an idiot, and you come away thinking, gee I really must be desperate to get laid.
