Saturday Night Field Report

Clubs are not my usual setting but my mission on Saturday was to run a few openers, simple. I wasn’t expecting a number close or anything more.
From my experience trying to think of which opener will allow AA to kick in. Styles advice would be just to go up to anyone and say “quick question” and then decide on the opener. To be honest there were just not enough opportunities at the venue. Deeper in the club it was too loud, so we stayed a bit further away from the DJ booth which was not a target rich environment.
2 Set (HB7)
I went up to the two set. I didn’t really do the “rock in, rock out” motion with my body but I did glance over my shoulder. I used an esp opener which I did not anticipate, it just came out. Anyways, the club was ridiculously loud so I did not root with my day game opener. Anyways, I did not want to focus my attention on the target so I was maintaining eye contact with the obstacle and getting her involved as well. I got a lot of kino and I wasn’t really paying attention to her body language but some IOIs as well. I learned from my old mistake of focusing on the obstacle as well, and tossing in a few negs. I could have stayed but decided to eject since that was my first set and my mission was to open a few.

3 Set (HB9)
Total kamikaze style. I went in with a opener I just made up about piercings, a bit too weird. They gave their input and I just ejected. Problem was here I gave to much attention to the target. I ejected and went off.

3 Set (HB8)
A bit annoyed with myself for only carrying out one real opener I opened a seated three set on my way out. Here I feel I did better than the first two. Motivated my success with the initial 2 set, I went in with the esp routine. I ran the opener with a short root and the obstacle was a bit cold and skeptical, so I decided to run it on her. I used a false time constraint, “this will only take 30 seconds” but in retrospect I should have used something like “I can only stay for a min because I have to rejoin my friends.”
I casually kept my jacket next to the target and said “im watching you don’t try and steal anything.”I got a good response from that. I noticed the obstacle roll her eyes when I was in the middle of the esp routine so I negged her for that. I finished and ejected.

Conclusion: My mission was to open a few sets and just enjoy myself. Normally, when I used to go out to clubs (2005) I would go with a few friends, get bored and talk to no one. This was the first time I actually opened a few sets, but I wish I tried harder.

I think your attitude is good and if you keep on that track, keep trying to improve you'll get better and better. Sounds like you may be ejecting too early, try seeing where it goes a little more, you never know. Sounds like you may be cutting your losses too soon.
