I work retail, and there is this girl there that recently started working in a different department. I'm going on break and as I pass her (let's call her Kate from now on) I make eye contact, smile, all very friendly and trying to keep myself under the radar. I tell her I'm on lunch but I wanted to introduce myself. I ask her if she is going to play football with the rest of the coworkers at the park and she says no. A piece of our conversation:
Me:
Why not? Here let me see your hands! *I hold mine up, and she holds her up next to mine*
See? You'd make a great wide reciever! *Still smiling and being playful*
Her:
Haha, what's that supposed to mean?
Me:
I'm sorry. *Still smiling, I grab her hand between two of mine*
You have the cutest hands I've ever seen. And my, they're soft! You feel like a slug *Cheers to Gambler for that one*
Her:
Haha, whatever!
Anyway I tell her I have to get lunch before my break runs up, but that I'd see her around.
The end of the day rolls around, and were cleaning up the store, and me and her start shooting the breeze again. A bit more of our conversation (Keep in mind, all done with a very playful tonality):
Her:
So what did you mean that I have slut hands?
Me:
Haha, I said slug hands. Is there something you want to tell me, Kate?
Her:
No, I'm not like that!
Me:
Really? Damn, I guess I'm gonna have to find somebody else then. *I start walking away and come back and throw my arm around her*
Her:
Haha, that was quick!
Me:
Easy there, that's sexual harassment
We have a little more fluff conversation about life outside of work and what not. Then the number close went something like this.
Me:
You're alright. I'd like for you to wine and dine me sometime!
Her: Alright, but I'm cheap!
Me: That's a shame, I was hoping for roses and a box of chocolates for our first date
Her: Haha sorry! But being frugal is the way to go
Me: Ah you're cheap. But seriously we should hang outside of work soon. Here, put your number in my phone, and we'll find a day to hangout. And I'll keep an eye out for some coupons for a nice place to eat
Anyway, got the number, and I plan on setting a date with her soon! The interaction went very smoothly. Nevertheless, I think I could always do better, so I would be open to critique as well. My own personal critique, is although I maintained a playful demeanor and tried flipping roles (giving her the idea she was chasing me) I may have come off as too jokey. I don't know guys, what do you think? General and specific ideas are all welcome!
