I was at Neiman's yesterday looking around for HB's when I spotted a 6 and a 9 chatting over by some men's jewelry. So I walked over and started looking until they introduced themselves;
HB6: Can I help you with anything?
Me: Yeah can I ask you ladies a question?
HB6: Sure go ahead
HB9: Yeah what is it?
Me: I'm getting a present for a friend and I don't know if I should get her pajamas or house-slippers
HB6: Slippers
HB9: Pajamas
Me: Hmmm... You look like a Pajama person, so I don't really know if I can trust your opinion (To HB9)
Me: You're probably right about the slippers, she can wear them around more than she can wear pajamas so she'll get more use out of them.
HB9: What's a pajama person?
Me: Well thank you ladies for your advice, I hope you have a nice day.

At this point I turn and walk away (although I never actually intended to leave) I take about 3 steps and then I turn back around.

Me: Oh wow, I never even introduced myself! Sorry if it's a little late but maybe you can impress your friends if you see me somewhere. I'm Sam.
HB9: Giggles I'm Mary (gestures for handshake)
Me: Mary, I'll try to remember (puts hand on her shoulder instead)
HB6: I'm Lauren
Me: Ouch
HB6: What?!
Me: I have a bad rap with girls named Lauren
HB6: I can change that!
HB9: So Sam, what sort of stuff are you interested in?
Me: Come on, I'll tell you all about myself

At this point I put my hand on her back and motion for her to break away from Lauren the HB6. The Lauren girl looks pissed because she thought I was in to her until my last minute transition in which I finally gave Mary her attention. We walk maybe 15 feet away and I lean up against a wall;

Me: So are you a student around here?
HB9: Yeah I'm going to *INTERRUPTION*
Her Manager: Hey Mary I need you
HB9: Bye Sam, hopefully you figure that gift out!
Me: Bye, hopefully you get those Shirts priced

Her boss completely destroyed me mid-game. I was planning on talking for about 2 more minutes and then # closing with a "Well I really gotta get going, gimme your number and I'll call you sometime" But there was no chance of closing in front of her boss. There are some jeans I want there and I'll have money after Christmas, so I think I'm gonna go buy them and in about a week and go for the # if she is working again but usually if I don't close in the first encounter I don't put it on my priorities.
