FIELD REPORT NO. 1

Mission: recon a particular bar
-
Primary objective: perform reconnaissance in the bar, to learn the floor plan, including the location of chairs, sofas, bar disks, dance floor and toilets.

Secondary objective: if I enter an adventurous mood and/or find a very promising possibility, I will try one approach and switch from the primary battle plan to some form of improvisation, while always keeping in mind that retreat is an option.

Mission result: primary objective successfully completed, secondary objective skipped. To be considered success given my extreme lack of previous experience.
Location-specific information retrieved during the recon mission:
* Distribution of and type of targets: at least 2 babes gave some horny looks towards me as I walked past them - shockingly horny looks tbh - but I wasn't ready to divert from the primary battle plan, besides in both cases I had already come too close and was about to take the next footstep which would take me past their position when I discovered them (note: they were in different sets, if it had been a set of two HBs looking hornily at me even I would probably have dared to approach). (Lesson learnt: I must learn to move more slowly without looking like I lack a plan when doing so, and also try to check out targets from a longer distance first so I don't discover them when I'm too close to make a quick halt). Their looks came across as nearly shocking (well at least intimidating) because I've not been in a bar in 4-5 years, and hardly in contact with any women either in this time (but thinking back on it it was quite nice and something I'll surely have no problem getting used to
). They were probably comparatively drunk though (thus the almost exaggerated eye-contact seeking and in fact more of lazy than horny eyes), but it's also a sign that I performed sufficiently well in my BL.
* This particular battlefield: this bar was very small, with tables and chairs located too close to each other for my taste, and almost no space. The dance floor was awkwardly located between the entrance and the bar section, with a huge gap in between - as a result of this nobody was dancing. Apart from being very claustrophic, the bar's tiny proportions would make isolation difficult. Only place for decent isolation was close to the toilets, from which a horrible stench came, however. Oddly enough, this is supposed to be one of the "hot" places for people at my age... Might not be a good place to start with when I go over to real PUAing. On the other hand, the only larger and more open bar I know of had very few people of my age last time I checked... Another possible drawback: most people in the bar were sitting. I would feel more comfortable starting out standing (at a bar disk or so), at least in my first approaches.
General PUA lessons learnt during the mission:
* Advantage in numbers: a first newbie mission might not work so well alone. I will need to return with a group next time. While they will certainly not help me with any targets, they will provide moral support, and a safe retreat spot, as well as a base camp (some place to sit) where I can sit and wait, watch, recon and rest between approaches or other mini-missions.
* Good additional things to look for in my next recon mission: look more closely at the types of people, the distribution between different HB types (both my own personal hotness ranking as well as personality attributes that can be discovered by looking such as level of self-confidence etc). Study the variations in this over the evening, and make statistics over distribution of each kind plotted vs time. Also, find out more about when they start drinking, and how drunk they're likely to be at a particular time. Such a recon mission will require staying in the bar for an entire evening.
Questions raised by the mission:
* I'm glad I didn't try approaching the two girls with horny eye-contact, for the reason I wasn't ready for that yet. I came up with many questions on these two, which I probably need to find satisfying answers to before being ready:
1. how do I identify a set? With tables so close to each other, a set could be divided over multiple tables, or a set could consist of only part of a table. So, if approaching an entire set, how do I identify which to address when talking and shaking hands? Perhaps I could start by just shaking her hand and approaching her, and then shake hands with any others putting their hands forward if any? But that could give too strong focus on her too early. I've heard that it's better to talk to the entire set until performing isolation. Is that correct? Any tips here?
2. if I focus on an entire set to begin with, how do I open? I know how to open targets that are alone - there's plenty of info on this in this forum - but what about a set? Even: a set with both women and men? Being a newibe I would like some opening which is as innocent as possible, and then build up confidence in spot and gradually switch to more marked offensive from defensive. Even so, the opening must be confident enough to not lead to instant rejection due to weirdness or unsexiness.
3. one of these two targets was sitting in a rather enclosed position, impossible for her to move out unless two or three others would stand up. This would make isolation almost impossible. Is it still a good set worth approaching (as a newbie mission)?
4. if a target is drunk and I'm 100% sober, will she notice? Will she feel I'm taking advantage of her or some other negative thing about my soberness? Also, is a drunk target a good choice of practise mission for a newbie? Finally, should kino be adjusted when the target is drunk, i.e. should touches last slightly longer in time, or shorter, or anything else?
Next upcoming mission ideas (relative ordering not yet decided):
* recon a few more bars to learn the floor plan at least, and if possible also the other aspects mentioned above. I now only know one bar in the entire city, whereas I know of at least 5 that are supposedly the "hottest" places right now for people of my age. I think I need to recon all of the other ones as well.
* go to some bar, any bar, together with a group of friends to build confidence. Seek to engage in talking with any girl or group of girls.
* practise BL and confidence balance between arrogance and uncertainty by more simple "ask what time it is" newbie missions, but only ask hot babes from now on.
* newbie mission to try and start conversations to chicks I don't feel very attracted to (if at all) just to practise talking to chicks in general (maybe try some exchange students at university, they usually seem comparatively lonely and thus probably open to conversations)?
Inner game thoughts:
* I might actually be more scared off success than of failure... I might need to learn more about how do reject/break up with a girl before I dare succeeding. I had some nasty (ugly) stalker-girl trauma earlier in my life, so I might need to know how to get rid of them...
* Could be good to have a favorite bar which I visit regularly, so I know which targets come their regularly and which ones are only there seldomly. The latter would be better targets than the former, at least to begin with.
