This is probably my longest field report. It includes two n-closes and a big mess at the end that I managed to fix. The dialogue may not be exactly word for word, but it’s to the best of my memory. Any variations are small.

Yesterday, I went to the mall with my wing to work on some day game. My main goal was to work on physical escalation, which I kinda forgot to really work on. But, oh well. We had a lot of fun sarging and I’m very proud of my wingman because he really showed a lot of improvement.

I had two number closes while at the mall. The first one was kind of weird…. I’ve seen prank videos on YouTube where people try to get a girl’s number without saying a single word. I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could manage it.

We were walking past the Victoria’s Secret and I couldn’t help but notice one of the many cute workers. I told my wing I was gonna try to get her number without saying anything and walked in. I had the dialpad ready on my phone and I walked up to her and just held my phone out. She started to smile:

HB7: What?
Smiley: (I just handed her my phone)
HB7: Are you gonna talk?
Smiley: (Made a motion like a zipper across my mouth)
HB7: (laughing) Why?
Smiley: (Shrug)
HB7: (laughing) Okay.

She started putting her number in my phone and I looked over at my wing and just raised my eyebrows to let him know my mission was accomplished. She handed me back my phone and we hugged. Then I just walked away. Not a single word said. And yes, we have already texted, so the number is solid.

Now here’s the more interesting part of the field report:

A while later, we were walking past a shoe store and I saw a sexy HB9 working inside. I was about to go an approach when I noticed there were already two guys in there trying to pick her up. At first I decided that I was going to leave it alone, I didn’t want to be “that” guy that swoops in and steals a pickup. I really wasn’t even sure my game was good enough to yet anyway. Then my wing noticed something about one of the guys:

Wing: Dude, I know that guy! He went to my high school!
Smiley: Well he’s trying to pick that girl up, so props to him.
Wing: Go pick her up right out from under him!
Smiley: No, I don’t wanna be “that” guy.

It was such a shame…she was hot….

Wing: Come on, I’ll go talk to him and act like we’re catching up while you talk to the girl!
Smiley: I don’t know man, he might be doing a good job. He might be about to get her.

Man…she’s hot….

Wing: Dude, imagine how cool I would look if he saw me hanging out with you while you pick that girl up right out from under him!
Smiley: But we would both look like douchebags if I tried to pick her up right out from under him and I failed. So how much faith do you really have in my game?
Wing: That’s true, it’s risky….

I really do want her number, though….

Smiley: Alright. Let’s go.

We walk in and the HB9 locks eyes with me and all of a sudden I know that I’ve got this. There’s not a doubt in my mind, I just knew I would get her number.

HB9: Hi! Can I help you with something?
Smiley: Nope.

I look at my wing and he starts talking to the two guys. I look back at HB9.

Smiley: Actually, I’m just having a dilemma and I was hoping you could solve it for me.
HB9: (looks confused and nervous) Okay.
Smiley: So (pause) I’m trying to decide what I should wear (pause) when I take you out (pause) on our first date (pause) but I just can’t figure it out…
HB9: (laughing) Oh really!? (She starts walking away toward the counter)
Smiley: (I remain standing where I am) So I thought I would just ask you what you were going to wear (pause) and it would give me an idea of where you would wanna go.
HB9: (turns around toward me again, smiling, and leans on a clothing rack, knocking over some clothes) Definitely something from Akira.

I didn’t know what Akira was. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a pretty high fashion clothing store.

Smiley: I don’t know what that is.
HB9: You’ve never been there?

She starts walking closer to the counter, away from the other two guys and my wing. I know she’s heading over to the cash register to print a receipt to write her number on, so I follow.

Smiley: Nope. So is it Burger King clothing or steakhouse clothing?
HB9: (smiling) Definitely steakhouse.
Smiley: Sounds doable.

At this point, she writes her number down on the receipt without me ever having asked for it.

HB9: (smiling) There you go.

I walk out of the store with my wing, number in pocket.

Wing: Well did you get it?

I take the receipt out of my pocket and show him the number.

Wing: No way!
Smiley: (laughing) Thanks for winging for me there and distracting the two guys.
Wing: No problem, that’s what I’m here for!

Big ups to my wingman for that one. This is why I consider him my Number 1 wingman. He does a great job. The two guys almost got me back for swooping in like that, however. I was texting the HB9 and she said that she was told I was picking up other girls at the mall. Obviously, this was true. I was doing other approaches and I was also winging for my wingman. We knew that it was the two guys who told her that because they had seen us doing other approaches. I told her it wasn’t true, but she didn’t believe me.

As the mall was closing, we were heading to the exit. HB9 happened to be reaching the same exit at the same time. Perfect. She looked at me and smiled but then, almost as if she forgot that she was supposed to be mad at me, she switched to a mad expression.

HB9: Don’t even talk to me.
Smiley: (laughing) What’s wrong?

This conversation was happening while walking and exiting the mall. She was still walking away from me, but she was slowing down and was turned around, walking backwards. She obviously still wanted me to talk to her.

HB9: You were picking up other girls!
Smiley: How do you know I wasn’t just winging for this guy? (pointing at my wingman)

She looked at my wing.

Wing: It’s true, he was helping me talk to girls. You’re missing out.
HB9: I don’t know what to believe.

We got outside and there was a car waiting for her. She got to the passenger door and just stood there, waiting, still looking at me. I continued walking past, heading toward where I was parked.

Smiley: (smiling) It’s your choice to make. (I was looking back while I kept walking, she was still just standing there)
Smiley: I’ll talk to you later. (I was looking back while I kept walking, she was still just standing there)
Smiley: Maybe. (I was looking back while I kept walking, she was still just standing there)

She just stood there at the car, not knowing what to say. Then I turned my head back around and continued walking away. I didn’t turn back.

We got to my car and I plugged my Zune in and started up the music.

Smiley: (laughing) This keeps happening to me. Girls keep finding out that I pick up other girls.
Wing: Didn’t you see how she was acting? She still wants you.
Smiley: Maybe. Maybe not. If she does, she’ll text me. If not, then oh well.

Two minutes later, she texted me. She decided to believe that I was winging for my friend (which isn’t a lie…it’s just not the whole truth). She has agreed to go on a date to a steakhouse . Find yourself a solid wingman, they help. This guy was one of my best friends before I told him about pickup, then I brought him into it. Now, he’s one of my best friends AND my best wingman. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to find a closer bond than that. Oh and yes, he also n-closed while we were there.
