Location: TGIFridays
walked into the place, took a step into the bar doorways. with a big smile on my face, kind of glanced for a second, then walked up to the bar, sat down on a stool next to a two set; took off my jacket and ordered a water. (mistakes are noted at bottom)
"wow, your new years party looks like a blast, is this all you guys are planning"
-the one on the phone ignored me, the other girl smiled and said "haha, no way this is the pre game"
me: "ah, pre game at a TGIfridays, gotta be something better than that? Hey, so can I ask you a question?"
her: "sure...."
me: "well being the big brother that I am (I forgot to say "great") I've got a little sister that gets into a lot of trouble when she drinks. I am trying to figure out if I should let her....more like approve of her going out and getting crazy?"
her - take the phone from the other girl (they are trying to figure out driving arrangements, one girl got stuck at work- thats who they were on the phone with)
me: that the rest of the group that is coming here?
her (one that was currently on the phone) - shakes head and then continues phone conversation
me: turn to the other girl; well maybe you'll be able to help me out - my little sister is this tiny little petite thing and when she drinks she gets crazy -everything from sick to just flat out wild
new hb: oh, and?
me: well I am trying to figure out if I should let her go out and party tonight?
her: does she ALWAYS get crazy?
me: yea...
her: I don't know, that is a tough question.
me: it is isn't it!? I have been struggling with it for a while
her: uhhh, I hope my sister doesn't get crazy. I just bought her alcohol...but I would say no to your sister
me: hmm, well I dunno. now that I think about it, sometimes it is best to let them make their own decisions.
me: *inquire about who is on the phone and why they arn't bringing the party*
her: blah blah blah tells me about the call and the situation
me: you ever travel outside New EnglanD?
her: no, not really
me: You are telling me you are old enough to sit at a bar, but have yet to leave your state!?
her: well, i've been to virginia
me: alright, see...you HAVE been. How are the beaches there?
her: good
me: a lot better than Cape Cod, that's for sure. Oh man, have you been down to Charleston?
her: no, but i've been to North Carolina.
me: wow, thats a lot more places than none.
her: *smiling* yea, it was nice.
me: Oh it's terrific isnt it? Warm water, minimal jellyfish, great people.
her: yea. it was fun
silence
silence
silence
silence
me: if you were to go anywhere in america, where would you choose?
her: I don't know....
me: there has got to be somewhere
her: I really don't. thats a tough question
me: yea...Its like a test right now.
her: giggle
me: thats why everyone calls me Pop Quiz.
her: they call you that?????
me: no, I wouldn't ever let that happen.
silence
silence
silence
first girl gets off the phone
they start talking again
me: so where is the party?
first girl: that was so and so, she is stuck at work blah blah blah (mostly talking about the situation with the other girl)
me (jokingly): well her job is just being responsible. ya know, keeping all the crazyness off the streets for tonight.
first girl: ha, yea right (boss' name) would never keep craziness down.
me: I don't know him, but I am sure your right
thennnnnn the girls start talking between themselves again
I wait about two minutes, take my jacket and tell em I got to catch up with my friends and walk away.
here is what I know I did wrong:
eye contact was decent with the second girl, but while going through the little sister bit, I kept looking to the side of her; kept having to force myself to maintain EC
when I first got there, I sat down next to them at the bar and ordered a water before opening
I sat down next to them, OOPS! (it was kind of dead, and I was trying to prevent attention on me....which is sort of reverse what I wanted for social proof, right?)
I let them start talking to each other again and did not add in or keep focus on myself
what I liked:
because the second girl was smiling and paying attention to me, I was nervous, but not embarrassed...I could actually keep a REAL smile on my face.
it was a good opener (even if I kind of fumbled through it)
when getting up to leave, it was on my que and I knew when it was time. I could have kept trying, but I got to leave NOT in disgust with myself
all in all 1 shitty set with no success, but no crash and burn either.
There was another 5 set that I didnt have the balls to approach, so I just left. _________________ [color=red:7c51ae7520]email is a better option: thelockestar@gmail.com[/color:7c51ae7520][/size:7c51ae7520]
