So - first field report....hope to do more!

Like many others, read the required reading but hadn't quite done anything about it. So coming back from a few drinks somewhere with my mate at night in a bit of rain, walking back to our apartments over a bridge. We were singing "when marimba rhythms start to play...". Noticed girl with earphones ahead with umbrella but not using it. Said to my mate "She's got an umbrella and not even using it!". The girl stopped and said that it wasn't very good. All the reading and theory popped into my head and started to be confidant and charming. Took the umbrella and put it up - started making jokes about how crap it was, held it over me so she got wet (from the rain people....jeez!) etc etc. Within 30 yards we were at my mates building. Said bye and just kept walking with her. Asked where she lived etc and she said would I mind walking her there as it was a teeny bit dodgy looking. Said that instead of that we should go for another drink. I don't now where all this confidence was coming from but I was on a roll. She said where - I said I knew a bar that was close and up-market and close. Was amazed that she said yes! And then she said (this is odd...) "You're not going to rape me are you???". Was shocked and said no! Took her to bar (this about 11:30 at night). She'd been out and had dinner with some guy friend who talked about his GF all night. So, we had some drinks and then we went and looked at the great view from the windows. Got lots of kino, arm round her waist etc. Then the bar shut and I said I'd walk her home. BTW - she was 25 and I'm 44, but I scrub up pretty well!

Walked her back and had more kino as I stopped and moved her about so she could see the stars etc etc. Got to her building and said we should swop numbers. No pen or paper!! Said she should call my phone. BUT....my phone was dead. I thought it would still register the call.....but it never did. Anyway, also said we should kiss. She did some cheek kiss thing. i said that was crap so she did it again and I said she had to kiss me on the lips - which she did!

Anyway, next day, discovered I didn't have her number! Bought some postcards and wrote for her to contact me and shoved them thru the doors that we're contenders for her place. Nothing back.

Things I did wrong

I paid for the drinks in the bar - silly me
I should have done more to make sure I had her number
Maybe I should have arranged another date there and then
Should probably have tried to get number earlier. Always seem to ask at the last minute, like you can't stay chatting once the numbers have transferred
