So I went to the bar with some buddies. Did the typical routine on a 2 set. They were tricky...extremely cocky and put up a huge bitch shield. They left to meet friends and then came back to us (like I knew they would).

I incorporated negs, DHVs, and even got some IOIs.

Here's when things went south. The girls came back and I said to the HB, "You look like you've got a look of consternation on your face."

Apparently this offended the 2 girls, because she looked like she was taken aback, abruptly left the bar, and said "You obviously don't know us."

Now, I wasn't coming off as a show off or anything cause I use words like that in everyday conversation with friends, but I need your guys' opinion. Did I do something wrong by using a word like consternation? Was she really offended that I used a word that she didn't understand?

Ouch. Just move on to your next set. Don't apologize for who you are, just be yourself when gaming. If the girls don't like it, move on to the next set. But, don't use that neg again. Learn from mistakes.

Don't see why you have to use a world like consternation ever. Unlikely that this was the reason by itself though. You probably had poor rapport with them before they misunderstood (or got) your accusation.

The language you use should be punchy, fun and emotional. Sounding over-intellectual is not a good thing where pussy is concerned.

Sum up your target's level of education before you spitting out a word like that - unless they are a super-geek or sophisticated MIlF you risk looking nerdy at worst or choking up the flow of the interaction at best. If they do seem overeducated then your flair for language will get you a few DHV/Rapport points.

gotta know your audience man. You don't talk to a humanist in biblical terms, or the person next to you at an opera about two and a half men. Use appropriate language for the people you are around. Educated and Intelligent (though linked) are different.

Some of the most intelligent people I know speak like rednecks and some of the stupidest people I know have the craft of the english language on par with Oscar Wilde.
