Today I was at a teacher's conference by myself (no one else from my school showed up). Unfortunately I was surrounded by HB5s and maybe some 6s. At lunch I found myself alone with no one to sit with. I saw a pretty cute hb6 sitting at a table by herself so I thought "why the hell not?"

I start to approach and about 20 feet away I freak out and turn away. After a few seconds of self loathing I kinda force myself to walk past her turn over my shoulder and said:
Me: "I never realized before today that teachers are the biggest thieves I've ever seen. They will steal anything!"

HB6: "Yeh they are, and they hoard food like its their last day on earth."

At this point I sit down and we start chit-chatting about some teacher bullshit. I feed her stories, lightly neg her. Anyway, I had her laughing for a good five minutes before her colleagues show up. 6 people suddenly sit and surround us. IT WAS AWKWARD! So, I get up to leave like an idiot and HB6 says
"Where are you going?"

ME: "Just making room for your friends."

HB6 gives me a funny look. Suddenly some of my PUA knowledge kicks in.

ME: "Well you weren't being polite and introducing me."

HB6 smiles and starts to introduce me to her colleagues.
Fast forward 5 minutes and I am the life of the table, everything was clicking. I was regaling them with funny stories of my friends and students. We were a group of geeky teachers having a ball at the most boring event in the history of mankind. It got to a point where people from other tables were trying to join in. IOI's up the wazzoo from both my objective and some of her colleagues. I did very minor kino (this is a professional event after all).

So at the end of the event I get up like I was going to walk away, take a few steps, turn back and say: " It was great meeting you and I would like to continue our talk sometime. Write down your number." I hand her a pen and paper.

She says: "I'm sorry I have a boyfriend."

ME: "I'm not asking you to marry me, I'm just asking you to hang out. I don't promise anything besides great conversation."

HB6: "I can't I'm sorry."

ME: "Don't apologize, It was good meeting you."
Walk away... I wasn't all that interested to begin with but it wold have been nicer to number close to satisfy my own ego. **sigh**

It's good to see success like this.

Keep forcing yourself into these situations and that approach anxiety will entirely disappear.

You created this entire situations, you created a party and were the life of it simply because you overcame your anxiety.

When you force yourself enough and start to realise that you can consistently do this you'll soon lose that anxiety.

Well done. It looks like you were simply unlucky to me.

Thanks man, I'm workin' on it.
But is there anything different I could have done to end this situation differently? Is there something I could have said to the boyfriend remark that would have worked in my benefit?

Not from the sounds of it. While a lot of people claim to be good BF destroyers and they probably are, there'll always be people who simply aren't willing to cheat or endanger their relationship.

Be grateful for those for they'll help keep your faith in humanity.

I agree.

The only way this situation could have been avoided would have been to build up comfort (see M3 model)

Boyfriend destroying with girls that are happy in their relationships and not willing to risk their relationships can only be achieved with sufficient comfort. Doing this is very difficult unless you can isolate and jive with the girl.

Teachers are thieves but they're also nosy ass gossipers. No way in hell you're getting that number while her colleagues are within a half mile radius. Unless . . . You made it a cool thing to share numbers amongst everyone at the table for some future event.

You know it is not always possible to break a girl with a boyfriend. And when once you have a serious girlfriend it will be this knowledge that will keep your sanity :D.
