Tolle, in The Power Of Now, suggests that the excessive control the mind has over our being is what causes us to suffer.
Gunwitch says that beta males who happened to be intellectually superior created the arbitrary value systems in society so they could get laid.

The distinction between being a natural alpha or beta comes down to one's intellect and nothing else. The nerds with bigger brains allow their mind to usurp their being (the animal inside that just does stuff without having to rationalize it).

The only way to "become" alpha despite being born and raised an intellectual is to let go of your mind - read Gunwitch and Tolle, but only to guide you in the right direction, not as a blueprint for how you should live.

As I see it, all the talk of "routines" and indirect game on this site only reinforces beta qualities.

My two cents.

how exactly would you get them to guide you? do you mean listen to some of what they say and discard other ideas ? how would you know which to discard and which to keep?

Confidence, not intelligence, determines Alpha and Beta status...IMO

What an interesting theory! I can see how it makes sense, though the definitions given of alpha vs. beta male is not the widely accepted, its an intriguing perspective. I find that if i think too much about a set, or any social situation, i feel less natural and more prone to failure. Hence the 3-second rule ;D

Agreed, I myself am quite alpha, in the sense that people generally listen to me and I always like to be in control, however I generally think over most things, this happens to the extent that people tell me sometimes that I come accross as cold and calculating. I feel people listen to me because I am confident. I also consider myself to be very intelligent.

One could of course argue that I learned to do this because I wasnt always like this, but I simply aquired confidence over years of self improvement before I even discovered the PU community so I dont think so. I am perfectly comfortable making decisions on the spot with very limited information, I dont make mindless decissions, I simply can make a decission on the spot when the occasion calls for it.

Personally, I think that in a primitive society an intelligent individiual would fare very well and could well rise to be the leader because his decissions would affect the entire society.
