Tried looking it up via google but no one has any real methods for building them up. It's mostly a bunch of just do it type things. That's great and all but I need something I can apply.
I view these 2 things as a muscle. Don't use them for too long and they become weak and much less useful. I haven't needed to use them in a while and they've become weak. I'm doing a big change with myself and I need them now. Their weakness is an obstacle and I have no need for obstacles.
Who's got some good advice or methods they'd like to share with me so I can strengthen these muscles to Herculean levels?
Thanks in advance!
well as far as discipline goes, i mostly learned its power through martial arts, its important too, basically to summarize, more than anything you need goals. Goals are the fuel in the furnace of achievement, without concrete goals, you'll be fighting for nothing, and will stop short of achieving anything. Make goals, write them down, and constantly remind yourself what you want to achieve, and what you are fighting for... also make sure you have a plan of action, otherwise, you'll never make progress, and give up
i remember we called it "the black belt success cycle" it went like this: know what you want, have a plan, have a success coach, TAKE CONSISTENT ACTION, review your progress, and renew your goals.
remember life is a struggle, so you can never stop improving
as for willpower... thats a whole other monster... i've looked into this alot myself and this is what ive gathered
ok, you ever seen a movie/show/read a book, where the main character does truly impressive and courageous things, like gladiator, or maybe one of those japanese mecha anime like gurren lagann, and you suddenly become inspired by said persons actions? You know the hero, who continues to fight, never giving up, never giving in, always struggling until the end, making great sacrifices, and taking great risks...
THIS, has a major impression on your spirit, the way i see it the human being is made up of three parts: Body, Mind, and Spirit, all three encompass your self, your being, your soul... now its easy to train the body, eat healthy, sleep well, exercise/train, and lead an active lifestyle. The mind, a bit tougher, but still, rather simple too, eat well, sleep well, stimulate the mind, and mediate.
Now, the spirit is very tricky, basically... the body is like the horse, while the spirit is the king, this relationship MUST be present in your 'self', before you can even begin to train you spirit, this is why many religions and what not, encourage, chastity and occasional fasting, because these actions, establish a dominance of the spirit over the body, and mind. I could go into more about this, but its a rather long and controversial subject. Well, anyways, the say i see it, the spirit grows stronger through inspiration, this is why people recommend you work out with music that inspires you, because you'll be able to give it a 120%. Confidence is also a factor, you have to be confident, in who you are, in what you do, and so forth. You have to be proud of yourself, in who you are, in who you were, and in what you are capable of. Finally, you have to be virtuous, generous, benevolent, courageous, etc..
All, in all, building strong willpower is tough, because the spirit is largely unknown by most as its intangible. I basically told you what I have learned through experience, and reading, i could go on for much longer but itd be easier if you tell me what you hope to achieve...
