I've had this thought in my mind that's been bugging me a lot.

I've come to a realization a long time ago:
If someone is putting you down, like yelling at you etc. you should ignore him.
Fighting him back (by cursing for example) will be the ego-driven thing to do, while ignoring him knowing he's wrong will be the peaceful thing to do.

By ignoring the person and being in peace with that, you both will get out of the situation harmless.

The thing is, what about a situation in which one would hurt you physically, hurt you bad in such level that you cannot ignore, what would be the right thing to do?

Walk away from the threat if possible. Always make an attempt to walk away. Then if that doesn't diffuse the problem and you are still physically threatened with bodily harm then defend yourself in accordance with the threat and within the guidelines of the law in your area.
