This isn't a puzzle or riddle. He never mentioned that it is. It's a story. Just like life, you take everything as it is. Accept it and cope with it. You can't never fully understand every mystery of life. Rather than spending your whole life trying to find an answer to something that you can't control, you'd better off just step back, look at the big pictures and live with it.

Your parents will both die someday, as will you.

Whatever you do doesn't ultimately matter so do whatever you want.

All of them are going to die, the boy talks with the monkey, because he sees that he have a lot to learn from him.

EDIT: or I would ask him on which case they are going to live longer.

The universe is one. The monkey, the boy, the tree, the mother and the father... are all connected. And everything will "die" anyways. But what is death?

Like going to sleep and never waking up?... Reminds me of a similar experience... Waking up after being to sleep forever?

It just never stops.

It doesn't matter what course of action is taken as long as it taken. By selecting either a X or Y it removes the element of completeness or incompleteness/ infinity depending on how you want to look at it... This story can't be cut down into thousands of pieces and thrown under a microscope.

The monkey is simply killed or not killed....that is all?

Trying to put thoughts into word, without going the usual common mindful path which is wrong.

The boy with the arrow is the path, he must think yet he must shoot. The monkey is a monkey nothing more nothing less. (this is so hard as my mind keeps trying to settle on a definitive truth, yet it cannot as it won't be the truth). A action must be taken, with no correct choice or wrong choice.

Yep now I'm lost

the monkey is the boy's mind talking

hence stay out of your mind and grounded in the present moment and do what feels right.

This story is a story.....nothing can be extrapolated from it....Perhaps the answer is there is no answer.

One can learn from this, is the apparent ease one can find subjective meaning in something when there is none to be had.

Who told you this? Where can I find this in the story? I'm pretty sure that the monkey didn't say, "the answer is there is no answer."

Isn't ^this exactly what you did with the first phrase I quoted? . . and yeah, I agree it's quite easy to do.

I told it....surely I is "blocking" the "answer". More meditation and less I, realization maybe reached then...

the monkey will some how influence what will happen to his parents. in some way shape or form.

its like moving a pot off a table right before someone knocks into the table that would have broken the pot.

did the person know that was going to happen? no it just happened.
