I'm actually getting tired of this. I'll summarize what I know about the koan:

#1 The monkey is telling the truth
#2 It is not to be taken as a metaphore. The monkey is a monkey, etc...
#3 The answer shouldn't be searched via logic
#4 Shooting the monkey, not shooting the monkey, asking the monkey etc... will not get me anywhere
#5 The answer is already in the thread
#6 But it still doesn't matter because if I'd repeat it, it's not the answer anymore(wtf?)
#7 Getting pissed is part of the process

#8 I should stop thinking and take a "leap" and focus on how much I love my parents

#9 I have yet no idea how #8 will get me the answer.
#10 What I know however that writing this summary is pretty much pointless in the process of finding the answer(because I'm thinking) so I really have no idea why am I doing this lol. it's kind of a last desperate attempt.
where do you live man? Wanna go have a few hundred beers together?

Haha I live in Hungary. I'd love to have a few hundred beers but unfortunately I'm in the middle of the exam period.

I shoot the monkey and the one after that, doesnt matter if the new monkey talks.
What have we learned from SPAM and the riddle?

I can still save my parents and we can all have monkey for dinner.

When does the monkey talk about another monkey going after your parents? If you kill him your mother will die regardless of what you do.

Do you know what's funny?

I was watching my nephew's xmas nativity yesterday. Full of six year old kids. I was there sat there thinking how boring it was...

Somewhere in the middle there was a silence and my little nephew let out an almighty fart. God I was so embarrassed. All the other kids starting laughing their asses off.

After the play, when I was taking him home, I asked him why he did that. To which he replied, 'I just felt like farting so i did.'

He then ran off, because he wanted to go play with his action figures...

For a moment, I thought of monkey mind. I thought of how liberating it must be to not care what anyone else is thinking. It something we lose as we move from children to adults. I wanted to be my nephew at that moment.

$15 via SPAM for the first direct answer in my PM!!! You have my word that I will pay HOWEVER only If it really is a eureka answer

1) Funniest reaction to a koan ever.

Gotta try everything right? :D

2) Revelations can't be shared. The answer is in the thread, yet you don't see it. It'll be the same when someone PM's you their answer.
well cant someone just PM what one it was.... thats all I ask. There has to be a catch... because no one seems to be able to do this.

The answer.... Is to do what YOU choose. not ask others if they think youre right. You can only answer it yourself to yourself...

AM I RIGHT?????????????? < obviously wrong now

In a Zen way I think the answer to this problem is killing both of your parents.
Killing the link to your parents in your life, being independent.

So the real question might be: how do I kill the monkey WITHOUT killing it?

Admit it Hobbot, Im on the right path now =D

What I find strange, or rather sad is that given the same scenario some have found the answer where others have not.

Same scenario two very different outcomes. Some have found inner peace others continue the struggle.

Reminds me of story...

A guy died and god decided to show him the difference between heaven and hell. In hell every one was sat at a massive table each person facing one another presented with a bowl. . . but they could only eat the contents with a metre long chop sticks.

Try as you might no one could do it. It was too long and so they all went hungry. God then took the guy to show him heaven. The guy was upset by what if saw. Heaven was exactly the same as hell. He asked god what's the point? Heaven is the same as hell. The people there will never be able to eat the food with those chop sticks! God said look again at heaven. So the guy did. He saw that in heaven the people sitting opposite were feeding the other person they were facing!

Same scenario, different outcome. Some of you can solve monkey mind, some never will...

Ok Ive done the most replies out of anyone in this and I still dont get it, where some people have claimed to have gotten it on the first go.

Can someone Pleaseee just PM me the answer, then I can go on with my day. I got stuff to do.
You're almost there.

If you've read it 1000 times and you've just arrived back at the beginning. This is, in fact good. You just need to take one last brave step.

This is a step no one on here can tell you or instruct you how to take. Sometimes you just have to pump your fist in the air and cry and the top of your lungs... 'Nooooooo! And take that step.'
tweeby basically took the question and hit it back to you with the biggest hint ever.

If you still cannot look at it the way it is to be looked at, if you're still don't want to admit what you feel scared to admit, nobody on this thread can help you.

That's all there is to it.

Let it go.

Regards,

Don

.......................................................
Is all I have to is anymore.

There is a last step I need to take. I am stuck at "I dont know" < for an answer. Now I need to do 1 more thing... Yet no one can tell me this. Does this mean its a personal choice? I know if it was a universal answer someone would have just spat it out at me by now.... because this must be tiring to read, just as it is tiring to keep writing. hmmmm.

Guys I didnt shoot the monkey. Im not a killer.

I go home, and take my mum and dad out for dinner.

It has given me a realization that my parents wont live forever either. So appreciate them while I have them here with me.

Thats how the story ends. On my terms.

On my terms this story ends here. I'm gonna stop guessing. I've only gotten one real feedback since I joined this thread which was supposed to be a clue but I didn't get that either. I give up. I can't do this without help and I'm not gonna beg here. I'll occasionally watch back at this thread but I'm stopping guessing right now.

Hey, sorry if you have only gotten one real feedback...

You said this is what you know:
Quote:

I actually like all those points. Good start, but let me show you my list of things I know about this koan to compare with:
Quote:
#1 I know nothing.
You see, if you take the story of the emperor's new robe, to use Kasabi's example, the emperor would say this is what he knows about his new robe...

#1 The tailor's have spent all day and all night so it must be beautiful.
#2 The tailor's have used the most expensive materials in all the land so it must be beautiful.
#3 All the Emperor's advisor's have commented on how beautiful his new robe is so it must be beautiful.

In actuality, all it takes is one thought provoking comment from a child, who yells out to the emperor, "You're naked." Which changes all the above points. He suddenly realises that he is, in fact naked.

All of what he knows and what he has been told is clutter. He has to admit to himself what he knows, or what he thought he knew was in fact 'NOTHING.'

A similarity exists here with this koan.

I've told you about a story about my nephew. Not because I like running this off topic but because how a child thinks is important to getting this one. And it is no accident, that it was a mere child who pointed out the emperor's mistake.

Just in the same way, to get this you must think about this like a child. Free yourself from all the clutter.

I also told you about the story about heaven and hell... And how those people in hell struggle to eat because they're only thinking about themselves.

How many of you have cried out, 'I want to get this! I'll pay some $15 if someone just tells me this.'

You are those people in hell who only want to feed yourselves. You are the people who want to eat because of your EGO's.

Look, at those people in heaven they are in the EXACT, same situation as the people in hell except for one thing... They think about their situation differently, you could even say they think about their situation with COMPASSION for their fellow man.

How many of you have thought about this koan with compassion? Those of you that have are probably the ones who get this....

So to the ones who are still struggling...

You can see all your friends sitting in the plane of enlightenment. You see your parents, friends, loved ones and girlfriend there. They're all watching you, waiting for you to climb on board.

You have the boarding pass in your hands... Everyone wants you to walk up those God damn stairs and get on the plane.

What's stopping you?????

[Left foot foward, right foot forward... Just follow through with what you know right?]
