Everyone wants to be happy. Everything everyone does is geared towards happiness. Success = happiness, getting girls = happiness, financial freedom = happiness. Everything comes down to the pursuit of happiness in some way or another. So what's the secret to happiness?

The secret is that you are already happy. Happiness is your natural state. You were mostly happy as a kid. As the years went on, you pilled up failures, rejections, hurts, pains, negative beliefs, etc. that created a dark cloud over your natural happiness.

You don't become happy by doing positive things that create happiness. You do it by fixing the problems that hold you back from being happy. Not making enough money? This is blocking your happiness and you need to fix this. Not getting girls? This is a problem, fix it.

Don't listen to people who say "Just be happy!" They're only saying that because they don't have any problems currently blocking their happiness. They don't understand.

You can't "just be happy." Yes, happiness is a state of mind, but it's not that easy to just get into that state of mind.

To be happy, you need to fulfilled your unmet needs and desires, and once they're fulfilled, you need to limit the amount of desires you have and enjoy the moment - live in the here and now.

You can't live happily in the here and now when you know you're a p*ssy who gets no girls and makes no money and is a failure. Fix these things and THEN live enjoyably in the here and now. If you don't, these things will always be lingering in the back of your mind, causing a deep disharmony. You can pile on drugs, alcohol, video games, youtube videos, countless self-help advice, but the unsolved problems will still be there, causing you unconscious pain.

Its not hard to figure out what is making you unhappy. Write down the problems in your life, and instead of complaining about them, take action to fix these things. Either little by little, or massive strides forward.

Happiness is not somewhere out there, it's inside you, waiting to come out as soon as you take action to fix the problems you know you need to fix.

I've heard this advice from different sources. But none of it sunk in because they never explained what they were talking about in a way that someone who is miserable would be able to comprehend or how to actually practice it in reality.

I have to thank you for this post. It was very enlightening, you did a great job actually explaining how one could put this in action.

Thanks for the post, Christian.

It helped me figure out why I felt as I felt. Now instead of thinking about the things I have to do as issues, I will try thinking of them as possibilities for more growth, as I can now realize my happiness easily (even if something is wrong).

I think I have been in this state before, but it faded as soon as I noticed that my life had gotten boring. I had a gf and a nice future ahead of me, but I felt like something was still missing. I meditated a lot and thought that I should be happy, but yet wasn't. You're right that the thoughts stay in the back of your mind if you don't fix them, I think my unhappiness was caused by the thought that "Life just wasn't enough for me, yet. I have to be something more. I have to do something more. Why? Because I want to. Happiness isn't enough. I have to make sure the future is safe and interesting."
