Ok, so I re-started meditating again, I kinda fucked my brain over so I just grasped what I could from what I remembered.

This is what I do to meditate:
I just let go, relax, then I start resting my attention on all of my senses (I have a cup of tea and rain sounds for that), note, resting not concentrating, I release all energy from my thoughts and accept them if they occur (and get back to resting my attention on my senses).
Adding to that I sometimes use hypnotic maneuvers like, letting the heat from my arms flow to everywhere on my body as an energy to increase my senses and relax me.

It seems to work fine for now, but does anyone know if I could improve my meditation somehow?
Please share how you meditate if you have a different, non-usual way.

My goal is to clear my thoughts and feel better, and have a better focus. (Though, any improvement or added benefit would be great, not just these.)

I have a friend who does meditation and he did tons of research on all kind of meditation techniques. He told me a lot about that but as far as i realized is that meditation is based on visualization..
If you want to relax than visualize all your problems , anger in one ballon and visualize you are letting it go and concentrate on that..
There is one technique that increases your senses and i actually did it and noticed that my hearing senses increased so as my visual senses...Basically you concentrate on breathing. You inhale as much air as possible in 6 seconds and hold it for 6 seconds and then you exhale as much as you can for 6 seconds.. just count 6 seconds... he told me it's like some sort of devil technique I didn't quite get that...666 :D
And he uses sounds to help him improve his meditation and it helps him concentrate more..You can find those sounds on youtube :)

The good thing is that you're already working on an active meditation technique. I've found that meditation is make deeper and more effective by adding brainwave entrainment meditation.

It basically entrains your brain to deeper levels of relaxation and calm by listening to audio. Just by itself it works really good, but combined with an active meditation like you are already doing is even better.

A meditation I like is just feeling your body and saying to the thoughts "thankyou, I don't need you right now, i'm just focusing on the experience" and then focusing back on what is going on in your body. You aren't trying to ignore the thoughts and force them out of your mind, you are just acknowledging them then refocusing on the sensations in your body. And just allow whatever happens to happen, you may feel anxious, anger may come up, your body may shake.

That is all okay, just keep going as it is all part of the process. If it gets intense it is usually you working through something you've been holding onto.

Haha I was meditating today in a park, in front of a tiny pond... A car drives by asking " Are you taking a shit?" I could see why they yelled that, I was kinda behind some tall grass.

I learned meditation from mainly martial arts and yoga among other sports. Also, my spirituality complements practices of prayer/meditation as a means to achieve greater wisdom and good energy. I believe that various states of meditation can be reached during times of athletic prowess, like when you are running a race and waiting for the gun to go off to start the race. I usually meditate for a few seconds during down times when I know I am going to have to perform.

Another time I like to meditate is when I can quietly sit in a static state and relax my mind. Usually I like some type of music to calm my mind and reduce the mental chatter/clutter. I enjoy being in nature when I meditate too. I have been told from practicing martial arts that meditation is very important to produce mental "clarity".

I believe a lot of Buddhist and Taoist practices and find that Eastern philosophies tend to complement meditation more so than most Western religions. That's just my humble experience though. I even find that playing music can be meditative, as I have played guitar for many years and find it relaxing.

I recommend finding a spiritual guide that can teach you proper methods of mediation before venturing out on your own too much. I found meditation much easier once I learn some very simple techniques from teachers of the meditation arts. Think of it this way... you can learn a sport, martial art, musical instrument, etc... on your own and/or find an instructor to help you along your path. My suggestion is to find someone that knows how to help you quiet your mind and achieve your own greater wisdom.

In a meditation mastery course I took, it says the best way to meditate is to focus on your dan-tien (your center core, which is 2 inches below the navel) and focus 100% on it while letting thoughts, sensations, emotions, etc flow around freely.

Alternatively, focus on your stomach going in and out as you breathe from your diaphragm. Let your thoughts, emotions, itches, distractions, outside sounds flow freely without giving any attention to them. Do this for 15-30 minutes and you're good. You'll become a f**king zen master in no time.

What's most interesting about meditation to me, personally, is what you do AFTER you've entered the meditative zone. There are infinite possibilities.

It is also good to complement your quiet meditation time with a certain amount of time developing wise beliefs. This wisdom will add more depth to your meditations and give you more perspective on life.

Some principles could be:
Non attachment: everything changes, accept situations for what they are now.
Compassion: there is nothing special about your particular consciousness. Treat every human mind like it has a unique perspective on truth.
Achievement: true achievement comes from consistent practice over time. This means committing a lot of now-moments to your goals. The only way to be the best is to show up to practice every day

Here's my way:

-standing
-eye opened
-resting my awareness on the senses or on my body.
-trying to be aware of the thoughts instead of being sucked into them

Damn, thanks for the replies everyone. (I've been away for a long time and didn't really had the motivation to do anything at all.)

Visualization doesn't work for me, sadly. .-.
I'm not sure what does, I think I'm more of a kinesthetic AND in control of my emotions. It feels as if I can only make something happen/change if I fully understand it and that includes manipulating my own emotions and state with that.

I don't buy books. *cough cough*

Sadly, I'm an introverted, lonely 18 y.o. boy from a poor and dreadful family and the city doesn't have anything spiritual. The closest I was ever LEAD to meditation was Psychology classes at school and even then they only mentioned it. .-.
Thanks for the suggestion though, will keep this in mind for later in my life.

I know this state, but it's weird how you can lose these skills so easily sometimes.

Anyways,
I haven't been meditating much anyways. Right now I see it more as a thing that I do when I "feel" it's worth the time. You can't plan free will and even if you could it wouldn't be efficient overally.
