garage sales, Salvation Army, Goodwill, Savers, 99c Store, any other dollar store...

Ross Dress for Less, TJ Maxx, Nordstrams RACK all sell surplus from major stores and brand names at steep discounts also...

Walmart and K-mart sometimes have some good "fake" jewelry... never had much luck at target on the cheap stuff

The Doctor is on point.

I would add that you find a good tailor as well.

You have fewer size options with discount clothing. And even with
tailoring, my favorite articles of discount clothing are cheaper than new.

Tip: I like GQ magazine but the clothes advertised in there are
way too expensive. Get a GQ and find a piece or overall look that you like.
When you're out shopping, find items that are cheaper but pull off the same
look.

GQ is pretty much a style "guide" anyway. Use it.

I'm very budget minded when it comes to clothes.

Here is some stuff I do, though I'm not an extravagant peacocker.

-Neck ties
can be used to peacock. Bright colored, striped, UNDER a dress shirt,
over t-shirts, etc... I bought about 10 ties at Goodwill for less than the
price of one.

-Find a real bow tie (not the pre-tied "clip-on" kind).
I don't know how to tie one, so I just wear it untied around my collar.
It gives you the "I just came back from a formal event" look.

-Wear the same jeans more than one day in a row, given that they
don't stink. Nobody notices, esp. if it's with different shirts. Not as easy to
do with slacks.

-Try mixing dressy with casual
Biker jacket with dress shirt and tie
Anything with jeans
neck tie over t-shirt

-Tailor your t-shirt sleeves.
I'm thin and hate the way non-fitted t-shirt sleeves hang off my arms.
If you have access to a sewing machine it's easy to do yourself.

-Buy Febreeze and Downy Wrinkle releaser

Febreeze if you need to freshen up an otherwise clean shirt or jeans
Wrinkle releaser is decent if you don't know how to iron. You can also
spray it on while ironing.

-One-of-a-kind vintage clothes.
Those made-to-look vintage t-shirts from Target are too cliche nowadays
and everybody has them, even me. Search Goodwills. You'll find some
cool t-shirts than no-one else has.

-Ebay it!
Try it on in the store to find your size, then ebay and see if you can find
it for cheaper. Be careful of shipping costs, though. Also ebay vintage
t-shirts.

-Make it yourself.
If you can't find it, try and make it yourself. I can only
do simple stuff like making custom belts, adding patches, and
distressing items right now, but I'm looking to experiment.

-Good magazines to look at for ideas
-GQ
-Cargo (one of my fav's. Gadgets AND Clothing)
-Details
-Men's Health (believe it or not, it has a style guide most issues)

Well, I hope at least some of this helps.
