Just so you know, this has been field tested but only once. I just started with it but it got a great reaction when I did it. Anyway, there's a way to fix disposable lighters so that they shoot a plume of fire at least half a foot high. It definitely gets people's attention and is a great conversation starter. To do it first make sure you get a disposable lighter that allows you to adjust the height of the flame. Much like this:

Image

Note the piece of plastic hanging off the top right corner. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about but I'm just clarifying for those who may not know.

Next step is to dislodge the plastic covering around the gas dispenser.

Now you should be able to see the "guts" of the lighter. One thing you should notice is that there's a white plastic disk that is covered by the adjuster. This disk is what regulates the amount of gas that the lighter puts out. Now you need to push the adjuster up and over the disk so that you can move the adjuster without rotating the disk. It should look kinda like this:

Image

Notice how the adjuster is at an angle. Then you move the adjuster to the left-most side of the disk and push it down so it locks into the disk. Then you move the adjuster to the right as if you were normally turning up how much gas it puts out. Then you push the adjuster up again and move it left, lock it in, and move it right.

The disk is built to let gas flow freely but regularly you can't move the adjuster past a certain point. This bypasses that and allow you to completely disregard any regulation on the gas flow.

You only have to move the disk around a couple times for it to work. You can do it as much as you want but you won't see as dramatic an increase in flame size.

And voila! Insta-torch. Plus it makes a really cool whoosh noise like a butane torch does which makes it all very dramatic.

I hope this all made sense as to how to make it work. If you have any questions feel free to ask. And remember, fire is dangerous. I definitely recommend keeping track of which lighters you've messed with. Twice I've grabbed the wrong lighter and singed my hair. Not a good look lol.

That's awesome Nova! I'm definitely gonna remember that and go buy one of those tomorrow. Up until now I always hated those lighters, lol.

That is super Nova! Do you know any ways to doctor up Zippo lighters?

I wouldn't do it. It is the same reason that you don't do the "fireball in your Palm" trick. It is a bit played out. I have seen it a billion times and so have they.

Now, if you want some lighter tricks. There is the one that launches the cigarette film about 3 feet in the air which isn't too bad.

And for a zippo all you have to do is pull your wick (sp?) out a bit further and make sure you keep it filled. The higher the wick the higher the flame. Just remember, if the fuel can't get to the end of the wick fast enough then you will end up burning your wick instead of buring the fuel. Which smells bad and looks bad and is overall bad.

Okay you know the plastic film around a cigarette pack? Yeah, take that off the pack and then set it on the edge of a table (open end of package down).

Then you move it so that it is slightly over the edge of the table so that there is a slight opening (in the film) that you can access if you go under it. Then you stick your lighter to that opening and press only the fluid button. This will slowly fill the film with fumes. Hold the button for 30 seconds, so that the film will get full and then strike your lighter. This will cause the fumes to ignite and because of the rapidly expanding fire it will shoot the plastic up into the air. I have seen it hit about 4 feet or so in the air.

Quite nice actually.. but I don't know if it would be good to shoot a fireball 4 feet into the air in a club.

Good luck and i hope I explained it alright.

Thanks EvoJ, I'll be giving that a try.
