Hello all, when i first turned 16 i begged my parents for something to fix my acne at the time which was really bad i thought. I went ot the doctor and he gave me prescription called beneclin i believe? Now i just turned 21 and my face seems to be getting more pimples again. What should i do and what causes this? Does your body get used to it and its not effective anymore? Any comments or suggestions would help a ton because its one of those things that gets in my way when it comes to girls. Thanks all!

I had problems with acne too. I know what it's like, bro.

Here is some info on what acne is, what causes it, etc...

skincarephysicians . com / acnenet/acne.html

And just to quote that site, since I think this is important to know...
Quote:
Close to 100% of people between the ages of twelve and seventeen have at least an occasional whitehead, blackhead or pimple, regardless of race or ethnicity.
I wouldn't be alarmed about getting it later on, though. And I don't quite think that your body builds an immunity to certain acne SPAM. Anyone know more about this?

Like that article says, "Acne also has significant economic impact. Americans spend well over a hundred million dollars a year for nonprescription acne SPAM, not even taking into account special soaps and cleansers." There's gotta be something that works for you. If you really don't notice any difference, ask your doctor to recommend another product for you.

Good luck!

What kind of methods have you used that worked for you?

I know how acne comes about. Oil clogges your pores. And i have also heard stress is another factor. I figured since i am a legal adult(21) why do i still have a great number of them. I thought my face would be clear as anything by now.

cut out a lot of sugar from your diet i.e. soda and seriously drink 6-8 glasses of water a day like we all heard when we were young. Good for your teeth, good for your face. Also get rid of the greasy foods. You body will thank you later on, and is it just me but dont you just feel gross after you eat crap food?

beneclin just like my accutain wears off in about 4-6 years. So you pretty much hit the spot. My docter says they don't like to call it a "cure" because there is no cure for acne, but the strong medicine like yours or mine will in a sense be effective for many years. So it sounds like if your acne gets bad enough again you should sign up for another 6 month or however long your docter reccomends usage of the meds, it should last you another couple years and by then hope you have outgrown it.

that being said you are still 21 and males can go through puberty until around age 24.

many people will always have acne up until they die, its just part of life for some people to have naturally greasy skin. but it definately goes down after puberty (the amount that is)

One thing I learned about treating my acne is treating your face gentley while washing and applying anykind creams. Pat your face dry, don't mash the towel against your face. Gentley massage the soap in your skin, don't be rough. If you're applying anykind of creams to your face you should barely even be touching your face. Take your time and let the cream sink in while applying it.

My bad I was thinking of another product, Beneclin isn't terribly strong but if it worked for you thats good, you are probably just either sweating more, or wearing your hair on your forehead. If you do sports that can do it. One thing I found was that carrying around those wipe pads to get off oil from my skin and stuff when I am out playing soccer or on a bike ride is agood idea. Try keeping the oil off your face as much as you can.

I believe diet is a major influence like what the other guy said. I had terrible acne growing up and as soon as I turned 20 I stopped drinking soda and surprisingly my acne farm turned into a 1 every few months occurence. Sure I get them once in a while but they usually go away after a day or so.

My advice like the other guy, cut down on sugar and other nasty ass food. Trust me your body will thank you later on when the rest of your age group is fat and outta shape and pimpled up.

Yea like everyone says ... watch the diet.
when washing your face start with warm water until you feel your whole face feels like the water. soap it up (proactive, clean and clear, or whutever) ,repeat (I always repeat), BLOT DRY WITH CLEAN TOWEL. When drying your face dont rub the towel all over instead pat it down.

hope this helps

I've never actually had an acne problem, but I have near perfect clear skin and use astringent to clean my face 1-2 times daily. A bottle and a pack of cotton pads are like 5 bucks at your local pharmacy, try it out.
