I'm pretty new to these forums and to "the game" in general. Ive worked in fashion for quite some time now (I was a stylist at Hugo Boss dressing people for TV, Ive dressed people like Chris Noth who played MR Big on Sex n the City and Jennifer Hawkins who was once Miss Universe) so this is one area I have always had alot of confidence in and I think the way you dress really reflects your confidence.... or at least, the confidence you want people to think you have!

One thing Ive noticed from watching various PUA field report videos and even Mysteries TV show is alot of these so called "stylists" in the PUA community have no clue. they just try and copy what the cool kids do, but the problem with that is they dont pay attention to detail and thats what makes the difference. I mean most of the make overs the guys got in the PUA tv show were all from the same store so they didnt really reflect each persons individual inner style.

But back to the topic I posted, making sure your clothes fit! thats what makes the difference. You can have the coolest clothes in the world, but if they dont fit, you still look like "mutten dressed as lamb" as the expression goes. So when your looking for that new outfit watch out for a few things. One of the most important things is make sure the shoulders fit! and unless your totally clueless... never listen to the sales person when they say "it fits you spot on" or "it looks great" because they just want the sale.

Make sure your jackets sit right on the shoulders, zip up/button up without any pulling in the seems (its too tight fabio!) or wrinkles or rolls in the fabric (its too loose homie!). With your jeans, make sure the waist fits perfect without a belt and the bum sits spot on. With t shirts make sure the seem of the shoulders doesnt fall because this makes your shoulders appear to be smaller. Even if you have naturally small shoulders, having the seems sit right will make them appear bigger, AKA more alpha.

The best thing to do is buy fashion magazines and look at how the clothes fit on the models in comparison to you. You dont need to have their bodies to make the clothes fit right, you just need to shop right. Once you start wearing propperly fitted clothes you'll notice a major difference in your appearance and there for your confidence.

Cheers, great post! I was lucky enough to have a handful of fashion-conscious friends and relatives who helped me out when I was younger, and this was one of the first and most important pieces of advice that I've stuck with over the years. Aside from physical appearance, good fit is the other reason why models in catalogs showing off those $20 Wal-Mart clothes still look better than a lot of people busting out poor-fitting outfits that cost 10x as much.

Another confirmation: about 8 months ago, I had been under a lot of stress due to my job and the fact that I was getting ready for a big move to Europe, and I gained about 20 pounds. All of my clothes (which were/are stylish) were all really tight and no longer fit like they were supposed to. Since then, I've lost all that weight (and a little more), so my clothes fit like they were supposed to. The amazing thing is that I've recently been getting compliments on the SAME clothes I always had, just because they now fit like they should!

Stizz I know how you feel man, Im in a similar situation myself. Im blonde and pasty so theirs certain colours that are my worst enemy I.E yellow and light pastals. If your skin is really pale make sure you only wear strong colours. Like if your wearing white, make sure its a crisp white because cream will highlight your pale skin and make you look sick. The same goes for all forms of yellow and orange.

The only exception to this rule is using strong colours as a base. For example Im way too pale to pull off a white suit jacket (I hate all you tanned bastards that can pull this off!). But if Im to wear a black shirt underneath the jacket it evens it out because the bold colour is the closest colour to my face if that makes sense. But really the trick is try on as many different colours as you can and look in the mirror. when you wear them back to back you'll beable to figure out which colours do wonders for your complexion and which colours are your worst enemy. Hope this has been helpful

So how do you manage that when the backside of most jeans seems to be baggy these days? I am a medium kind of build, but my backside is not small. What happens is that as the fit becomes anything more than straight leg the backside always becomes baggy. Is it possible to get jeans that are a regular fit, but not loose at the seat??

I had some Hugo Boss HB2, but they were too straight in the leg (I'm 6ft 4 and my legs are slim so I can't wear straight leg). I also have a pair of HB1s I'm going to sell because they are far too loose all over. I have a nightmare buying jeans that I want.

Have you tried bootcut? its the only style of jeans i will wear anymore. There are low rise and loose fit bootcut jeans.

I agree 100%!!!! In fact I was going to post on this topic because of how many guys I see that think they know to dress.....but dont.

Its worth spending good money on good cloths....go out and buy your self a couple good pair of jeans....spend the money because if you dont women can tell! I also notice alot of guys who wear "bar shirts" but wear them one or two sizes to big! your shirts should be snug on your shoulders and should show of youy body.

I agree that women can certainly tell if you spent good money on clothes or not. But when your 6'6" you generally get an exception to this from girls. And I have found out that I can get away with wearing certain stuff.

You're so right. I just saw a pic of myself from 2 nights ago wearing a M shirt and I usually wear a S and it wasn't good. Learned my lesson. Lucky for me, Skinny is very rock 'n' roll :)

Ye but you can still be stylish in your own way..every one is diffrent! and every one will have diffrent styles. Some guys look great in a tight T, and others look stupid because they dont naturally have broad shoulders ect....me for example I have a small head so I dont wear hats because I know I look like a tool when I wear them lol Find your style and perfect it!

Im not sure what kind of shape your in? but If your 6"6 and thin I would do the whole rock star thing....small shirts, lots of cool jewlery, tighter fiting jeans ect ect....think british rocker. You already stand out because you are so tell so you can prob pull off darker colors.....wher as a guy who is 5"8 would want to wear somthing bright.

First of all.. just say no to the bootleg jeans! Bootleg jeans have been out of style for a couple of years and girls pick up on this. As for your problem with regular fit jeans, their is a solution, you just have to be prepared to try on a whole lot of different jeans. Personally Im a sales assistants worst nightmare. with no exaduration I'll generally try on at least 20 different pairs of jeans before I find one I'm willing to purchase because the cuts are all so different so its hard to find that pair of jeans that is made just for your build. Their are some cuts of jeans that are designed to rise slightly higher around the ass and lower at the waist, this is what you want. Obveously if you want them to be relaxed in the leg you cant expect them to be tight on the ass because thats just going to look silly. So you want something that cuts in a little higher around the ass so you dont look like your ass is invisible if that makes sense.

How skinny are you exactly? if your between a 32-34 inch waist you can definately pull off skinny leg jeans. Ive got a good friend whos a professional model. He's 6'5 and very slim (32 inch waist) and he always wears slim leg black jeans, pointy toed shoes, slim white t's and slim suit jackets and they look great for his build. Its all about how you pull it off. My biggest advice to tall skinny dudes is dont make the mystery mistake. Dont grow your hair long or wear long coats, long untucked shirts or anythng like that because it makes you appear longer and skinnier than you actually are.

I'm a fashion novice so can't say how I'd look in shirts. I am literally a t-shirt, or sweater and jeans person. I have been thinking lately of trying to buy shirts. I am a 34 waist, but a 36 leg, which gives me far less choice. I have seen advice to look at GQ, but the photos don't help much. I mainly wear casual clothes and I just have trouble finding any look I like except things I see on the Burtons website that every man and his dog is wearing already.

I will take your advice on the jeans. I don't want a really tight fit round the seat, just not loose. I will have to start stopping guys in the street and tell them they have a nice arse before I ask them where they get their jeans

Incidentally, if boot cut jeans aren't in what do people wear with bulky boots? The boots I have look awful with my 501s.
