I'm thinking of adding some Chuck Taylors to my shoe collection. I wanna go for one of the pairs that have patterns on them instead of solid colors, to get the peacock effect.

I've basically narrowed it down to these 3:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7419743/c/154122.html
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7375319/c/39329.html
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7375306/c/129594.html
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7330561/c/142690.html
(I know those last two might look too ridiculous or too girly, but I'm not sure whether that can be a good thing or not).

I really suck when it comes to being sensitive about visual style, so I have no way of knowing what shoe patterns look awesome and which ones just look totally gay. Please help me out bros!

Righty few bit and pieces here, shoes are an awful way to peacock (I'm guessing this is for in clubs, if its for day game and is congruent then why not). Converse are good and the choice of colours is cool but they are generic.
Also you need to know how to use shoes as a prop rather than a peacocking item, the easiest way to do this is get a pair and work material out around them. For example I got heavy kino in the first 10 seconds of meeting a girl a few weeks back, by asking about my shoes somewhere crowded standing side on and stepping towards them.
Finally too feminine is not an issue if you can pull them off and be confident in them. I wore a pair almost identical to these (mine had a cartoon sumo down one side) for ages

Any girl ever calls you on wearing pink, cal them on wearing trousers or blue

Well I'm one year too young for clubs, so this will probably only be for day game (mainly on my college campus). I was wondering... is it a good idea or bad idea to get shoes with patterns that totally clash with blue jeans (i.e. red)?

Hey Captain tightpants,

People consider me a hip / fashionable dresser. I am in no way a "peacocker" by MM standards, nor do I wish to dress in that way (but Mystery is still da man!). But I stand out many times by merely wearing clothes that fit correctly and look eclectic. Remember the ZZ Top song goes "every girls crazy about a sharp-dressed man!" javascript:emoticon('')

So enough tooting my own fashion horn, the point of this response was to say, YES, buy those chucks, probably the second link down. You can definitely wear those with a wide range of colors. But I think you can do better for shoes. Remember, simple colors and patterns that are DESIGNED WELL still stand out. Also, check out websites like thecobrasnake (party-photos site) to see what the "cool hipster party kids" in L.A. and NYC are rocking these days. You can get ideas and start improving your fashion "palate," as I am still improving every day.

Goodluck man!

P.S.- REMEMBER: women LOVE the details of clothing and accessories, thats why rings, and jewelry work so well (I don't were rings, but I do have a couple very simple bracelets, and super cheap (but colorful) string type necklaces, and even they will initiate kino for me many times!
I like to keep some "tension" in my outfit I.E. a dark V- Neck but with a lime green and pink necklace. AND if you spend a lil more for better quality, as far as fabric and fit, women DO NOTICE. So get dressed and have fun man! javascript:emoticon('8)')

Shoes are very important

just think how many pairs the average woman/girl owns

Shoes need to:
- Fit the occasion
- match your other clothes

Poeple, men and women alike, but women so much more than men, define you by the shoes you wear.

my suggestion is that you look what've you got in your wardrobe. If you don't have any red or orange in it there is no point in chosing on of those orange patterns.

The black will match without about anything (at least with casual style clothes) but they are also the least noticable.

I as a rule wear shoes with colours that match at least on other item of my outfit. If I choose to wear white shoes, I'll match it with a white belt, or black&white shirt etc... currently I'm sporting a grey hoody with black/white/red print, black worn jeans, and black/white/red adidas shoes. (I'm at work btw, if you were wondering, ie casual)

*EDIT* My belt is white.

Thanks for the posts so far guys! I'm learning a lot already.

Ok, so I might get those blue/grey plaid ones, but now I'm also liking the looks of these: http://zeta.zappos.com/product/7204597/color/59624
Damn, it's hard.

I'm also going to order a white belt with whichever pair I order.

Also, is there a better place to buy Chucks than zappos.com? Because it doesn't look like they have a very wide selection there.

All of those shoes are terrible. Vomit inducing terrible. If you are buying chuck's just stick to plain and simple. Black or white. If you try and get too fancy with your shoes you will have a hard time finding outfits that match. I like the pink ones, but those are still insane.

All you have to do is make sure your shoes are clean, you look clean and your outfit coordinates. That is all that really matters. Here is how it goes.

Black shoes
Black or some colorful socks like red.
Black belt (white can be pulled off if you have white on your shoes)
black watch

Another quick tip, get a subscription to GQ magazine. Even if you don't wear suits and fancy-ass clothes, their is plenty of info on cool casual clothes, and you will pick up tons of good tips about how to dress like a confident man.

Also check out shoes made by Tretorn, Vans (of course - go for some all white), and you need a pair of good ol fashion desert boots, maybe by Clarks.

Yeah, I plan on getting some all white or light grey hi-top Chucks in the future. I already have some nifty black Vans hi-tops too.

Now my next question is about belts. I'm looking to buy a white one, since right now I only have black and brown. What kind of belt should I look for, and how the hell does the sizing system work? I wear 32 waist jeans, does that mean I should go for 32 sized belts? Also, where is a good place to shop for them? Zappos doesn't seem to have much.

Ok so I ended up getting http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7375319/c/39329.html and http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/46157159/c/14.html to match them. They look pretty awesome and trippy but not cheesy or kiddie.

Love the belt, hate the shoes.

I want to have a pic nic on your shoes. Converse are great stylish shoes, just stick to blue, black, or white.
