Altai straight legs are just exactly that. The width of the leg is the same all the way down, where as Bootcut widens towards the bottom of the leg. Someone correct me if im wrong though.
I say thats pretty much correct.

An Im around 5'5 and find it really hard to find jeans. I actually went upto a size 35" and was squeezing into size 34" but had a belly popping out. So started to diet and work out and now get into size 34"s comfortably however when shopping it is a pain in the ass as short legs are just a tad to long. Aiming to get into size 32" comfortably and keep it there as I feel they look good.
I don't know how much money you have to spend on clothes. But you may want to try designer label jeans as well as specialty stores. As I have reasonable luck finding clothes that fit my tall frame from those sources.

Would love to be able to pull of skinny jeans though but due to playing soccer for years I have big thighs so it just doesn't look right, but I agree with the opening poster. They do get a lot of attention, just the other day on the train I noticed a dude pulling off the most tight fit ever and I actually said to myself "how the hell can he wear that?" but looking back at it, the guy pulled it off with ease and did indeed look good.
I know your problem as I use to play football and my thighs got to big for levis at the time so I had to find looser jeans. You may want to look for fitted jeans instead of skinny jeans. As they may have enough room for your built up legs.
