I think a button up shirt looks good under a plain v-neck jumper, but that's about it. Other than that, the whole styling just looks unbalanced. Collars are not designed to be poking out of round necks. The whole point of a collar is that it creates another angle of symmetry and creates a focal point around the upper chest area, which is quite masculine. This is why if you are wearing a shirt buttoned all the way to the top on its own, it generally looks out of place without a tie...the tie centralises the symmetry and concentrates the eye on the vertical axis. you can wear no tie with an unbuttoned shirt because the break in the vertical space is created when the collars move outwards. When the collars are just popping up out of nowhere, ie from a roundneck, there is no reference to the vertical axis to give reason for this extra mass of material around your neck.
On top of this, with short sleeve shirts, again the fluidity is imbalanced when the sleek t-shirt is interrupted by the furls of the shirt sleeve. The arms (like the legs) should be one mass of material...imagine wearing a pair of shorts over a pair of trousers...its almost the same thing imo.
Waist-jackets by comparison are another garment that are worn over button up shirts. But they look good because they dont create two sleeves...and they leave enough room around the upper chest area so there isn't such a weight of sameness and lack of symmetrical reference.
You should look at my pics then. If done right, the T-shirts over collared shirts look very stylish.
Even though I still don't like the look, you are doing it quite differently to OP which doesn't make it look as bad. You have the necklace out which creates a focal point around the upper chest area, in the way that an open collar or tie would. You have also chosen shirts that colour match the t-shirts which is a wise choice. And the hat also brings focus upwards. As well you are using loud patterns which means the patterns themselves take some of the attention rather than how they are worn. But still, there's still something wrong about it...for me, you have gotten away with it in your pics - but I wouldn't be doing it for the sake of trying to get away with it.
